What do your DC eat for breakfast?

I am interested in finding out what other DC eat for breakfast. Even better if they are 10/11 year old boys.

I took DS2 to a paediatrician (routine appointment for his ADHD)& she said I don't give him enough breakfast. He has grown 2cm in height since January & 2kg in weight since end of July & she says he is not growing enough. He is on approx 6th centile weight/50th height. GOSH were happy with him upon seeing his dad who is similar build.

He usually has 2 slices of toast with marmite & juice, on weekdays. Weekends usually 2 courses - crumpets/croissants/waffles, followed by a plate of fruit. He is slow to do everything, including eat, and toast is quickest thing we have found.

I didn’t see you were asking for breakfasts sorry, I thought you meant extra calories.

I give ds porridge made with whole milk and a spoon of Nutella stirred in for breakfast. With a cup of smoothie (medication crushed inside) and fruit.

DD10 has a mix of the following on weekdays:
2 x weetabix and milk / cereal no milk with berries on the side / watermelon and berries / porridge with a little salt / toast and butter and an apple if we are running late.

Weekends are: toast Nutella and berries / pancakes Nutella and berries / French toast and bacon / bacon or sausage sandwich / full Scottish breakfast etc.

She is a good weight and some mornings not hungry for more than fruit… others can out eat her father!

DS is 12, 98th centile height, 75weight. If I let him he'd eat half a cereal packet but I limit him to two adult portions and a banana +milk. He'll usually drink a glass of water and a hot chocolate too. I tried to give him a protein drink at one point to fill him up rather than the crazy amounts of cereal he was eating, but I can't say it worked.
He'd happily eat 4 slices of toast or bread and honey or jam instead.

DS2 is the same age. He normally has a bowl of weetabix filled shapes (like Krave) or Cheeries but never eats it all. Followed by a piece of toast and some fruit.

Nearly 10 yo DS - early riser and always eats 8am even on weekends

Weekdays

2 boiled eggs with 2 pieces toast
Natural yogurt with honey and nuts plus 2 pieces toast with peanut butter/marmite
Occasionally just toast with peanut butter/marmite

Always followed by fruit

Weekends

Pancakes
Fried eggs with toast
Bacon and eggs with toast
Yoghurt with honey and nuts and toast

Again always followed by fruit

Quite fond of a hobbit style second breakfast around 11 in our house Grin Hot cross bun or pain au chocolat from the freezer or yoghurt or big wedge of watermelon and some nuts depending on what he's already had

Wish I had his metabolism!

My 12 y o DS has one slice of marmite toast and a glass of water.
I offer him more, but like yoyrDS he is a slow eater and says he hasn't got time.

10 year old DD- Half an English breakfast today as we had to be out of the house for viewings. She left the other half. Ordinarily, small bowl of cereal or museli, she doesn't eat or want anymore than that in the morning.

DS 13 usually chocolate spread sandwich on school days or sometimes porridge and golden syrup. Weekends generally a running buffet - fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, cereal, toast and jam. Always up for sausage sandwiches or pancakes if someone makes them. Doesn't eat eggs or bacon 🙅‍♀️

My little boy is 8 he’s small and slim, generally 2 slices of toast, an apple and banana/ 2 crumpets with the same fruit or mixed berries , scrambled egg with grated cheese on toast and fruit , homemade pancakes with oats, ground almonds and a handful of frozen fruit , eggy bread and fruit , croissant and fruit, if he is still hungry he might have Greek yoghurt and honey, milk or a chunk of cheese. He doesn’t eat a great lunch at school as wants to play so I’m glad he eats a good breakfast. My husband has adhd and isnt very adventurous, he doesn’t eat till 9ish on his break , he has cereal , a porridge pot, croissant, pan o chocolate, brioche bun ect

Two ds, ages 10 and 11. They will either have cereal, bacon or sausage and egg sandwich, 2 boiled eggs and soldiers, pancakes, full English breakfast. They'd eat a cooked breakfast everyday.

DS is 12 and needs to put weight on for his sport. He's not especially bothered about food, but will have 2 x weetabix with a sliced banana and honey with warm milk. Plus a smoothie (banana, frozen berries, greek yoghurt, milk and honey), if I've got time to make it.

9 and 12 year old boys - whatever they fancy - I don’t have to rush to work and we leave 8 / 8 15. Choices:
cereal (wheatabix or hoops at the moment)
Toast or bagels or crumpets.
Things on toast - beans, eggs
Fruit and greek yogurt
Eldest has been known to ask for sausages.
Drop scones is popular too.
Amount they eat varies.
Both normal weight / height for age

Weekdays - whatever they serve at Breakfast Club

Weekends - one morning it's pancakes with toppings and the other morning it's weetabix and toast with various spreads and fruit.

Dc1 is 10 and eats a lot at Breakfast. She would easily have two weetabix with banana slices, a croissant with butter, a hard boiled egg, yoghurt and a mug of tea. It's her meal.

Toast witharmite and a corner yogurt. Occasion a banana and yogurt. Weekends brunch a full English, sausages, bacon, plum tomatoes, egg, toast and hash browns.

Mine need protein to fill them so cereal or toast is ok but needs following up with waffles and cheese/ scrambled egg or beans on toast,, greek yogurt and nuts and fruit etc we do quiche cup things in the morning to. Mine are 6 & 8 and no what your son has isnt enough for mine now.

If ADHD too he needs more calories and more protein will help.

This is interesting, thanks all. It seems like some other DC do have more but his is not the lightest breakfast, by any means.

At weekends, he eats considerably more. If we go out for breakfast he will easily polish off a full-size adult Full English (or more if at a Toby Carvery, he takes a bit of everything!). But he just does not have time on weekdays & we don't have time to cook breakfasts or do smoothies.

He is not a fussy eater at all, will eat anything except about 10 foods max - current favourite foods are snails, blue cheese & asparagus Hmm

Although he has ADHD, it is inattentive type, meaning he does not get hyperactive, rather he cannot concentrate. Used to be called ADD, I believe. He is on medication for that & we had read it could suppress his appetite, but it doesn't. It hasn't as yet had any effect on him, so his dosage is being upped.

I must admit I was rather surprised that the pediatrician was not happy with his growth. I thought that 2 cm in 2 months & 2kg in 6 months, although not huge, was at least a step in the right direction but she did not seem impressed. We went to Great Ormond Street (musculoskeletal team) in January for tests (at her request) & they said that although they would prefer his weight to be nearer the 50th centile, they were happy enough as they could see his dad (also there) was the same build. So I'm not sure which set of professionals to go with, iyswim.

I will have a think about weekday breakfasts & see if I can improve somehow, maybe even just different toppings or a smoothie instead of a juice. It's food for thought (pun intended Grin)

Either a bowl of cereal, a cinnamon bagel with peanut butter or, occasionally, scrambled egg in a wrap.
What you are giving your dc doesn't sound too little.

Both DC have cereal (shreddies, weetabix or cheerios usually) and something toasted (toast, crumpet, muffin, bagel, fruit toast etc). Then DS2 (4) will have porridge and a yoghurt as well. He doesn't tend to eat much lunch or dinner though.
