Sustainable shopping

Anyone one else keep seeing ads on Instagram for washing capsules, deodorants and alcohol etc that you buy online, is more sustainable (minimal if any plastic), and is delivered to your door in recyclable boxes? It’s very appealing but I find the prices are quite expensive which isn’t a surprise but a shame as it’s out of my affordable budget.

That’s the trouble. We’d all love to reduce air miles of goods, shop locally, use sustainable products, but the reality is, most people have to stick to a budget.

I tried the dishwasher capsules but found they didn’t bring everything clean.
And I agree, far more expensive than bulk buying in supermarket.

Realistically I’m only going to buy stuff I can get delivered from Asda in a single delivery. I can’t be bothered to order deodorant from one website, laundry liquid from another, dishwashing tabs from another... and be home to receive multiple parcels. If it’s not available from the supermarket as part of my normal weekly delivery then I just won’t bother.

They all seem to be subscriptions too, which I hate.

The only thing I order online is my soap refill from Splosh. I like that you can just order the pouch as and when and don't have to commit to a subscription.

Always order online or health food shop cleaning, affordable as buy when deals on, and buy 5 litres at once.
Bio d currently, offers on sites I use

Not super cheap I realise but instead of the capsule subscriptions I've been using these.

Seem to do a perfectly good job and much less waste etc.

Sustainable products are only available to the well off sections of society. When you can buy laundry detergent from Poundland because thats all you can afford you're not going to spend ten times that on a sustainable item..

Surely it's better environmentally to get it all delivered in one truck than umpteen different ones as well.

We tried some loo roll which comes in paper which is recyclable but it wasn't as good as the usual & it's an extra delivery. Now we can recycle the plastic ours comes in anyway so no benefit
