Temporary furniture ideas

We’ve just bought a house but are in the lucky position of not having to move right away so we can get the basics done (decorating, floors, basic furniture) without a manic rush.

We’ll probably be living there at weekends and I need some temporary crappy furniture fill ins whilst we do that. Air mattress obviously - what else? Anyone tried blow up armchairs? We have a small dc but high chair and travel cot should cover that.

Facebook marketplace or auction houses.

Have a look on Facebook selling for cheap sofas / armchairs - don't waste your time with blow up ones. Too much money, only goes to waste.

Use your garden furniture if you have it?

Camping chairs. You can even get kids ones. Or why not buy garden furniture (or use your own if you have some already) and move it outside when you move in properly?

Blankets.

Gumtree freebie’s is good for people trying to get rid of unwanted furniture

Temporary shelving with planks and bricks.

I would buy comfy decent garden furniture. Then it can be moved outside when work done, and stay outside as main garden furniture when finished

When we first moved into our first house we borrowed some reclining garden chairs, they were surprisingly comfy.

I just got a cane conservatory suite on eb. 3 seater and two chairs for £30. Something like that would be perfect for you. I use them under my gazebo from spring to mid October then cover them for winter. If they survive without getting damp then great bit of they do I chop them up and they go in the garden water at the tip, the cushions to the dogs home. So I'm reusing something and not spending money/resources on patio furniture AND it's mega comfortable. Pretty chuffed to be fair.

or maybe buy camping stuff if you plan to camp in the future?

We had reclining garden chairs in our first house while we waited for the sofas to be delivered. Packing boxes as tables.

Try your local furniture reuse charity. Many bargains and mine even has a free section.

Great ideas - thank you! I think the previous owner is leaving behind some metal garden chairs but they are prob not very comfortable, will look into getting some nicer recliners
