What would you like for your birthday?

It’s my 30th next month and lots of family and friends have been asking for ideas for gifts. On my list currently I have -
Bubble bath
Slightly more expensive slippers than I would usually buy
Wine glasses
Earrings

Any ideas? Preferably things that feel slightly luxurious but under £50

@MrsDThomas, why so bitter? Do you not have anyone who cares about your birthday and makes an effort to find you something you might like? BTW, my dd was 30 this year, she has been through a great deal in the last 10 years so it was really lovely that her family and friends were so happy to celebrate with her, whats wrong with that?

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2022 12:38

Babe, I don't think MrsDTomas sounds bitter at all. I agree that if someone comes on a chat forum to ask what she should get for her birthday, it gives the impression that she herself doesn't have many ideas. And with all due respect, your snide suggestion that MrsDT has no one who cares about her is, well snide and sly

MrsDThomas · 19/03/2022 18:41

@midsomermurderess no need to defend here.

Some people love the idea of birthdays. I don’t see the appeal once you are past 18.

Some love the attention and gifts where as im not that person who wants.

I have recently had a milestone birthday and DH was tearing his hair out with me because I didn't want anything but he thought I should want something Grin. Ultimately we had a weekend away which he mainly paid for.

He also got me some running tights, some shower gel and some chocolates and ds got me a book.

30 is a significant age!

NeedleNoodle3 · 19/03/2022 19:20

I got some vouchers for clothes shops when I was 30, I appreciated them as didn’t have a lot of spare money then.

VickerishAllsort · 19/03/2022 20:24

Twenty years off ....

MinglingFlamingo · 19/03/2022 21:33

MinglingFlamingo · 19/03/2022 21:33

Nice bunch of flowers

thebabessavedme · 21/03/2022 22:06

nah, not snide or sly, just dont get why some people have to be so negative, its just a birthday, some of us like to celebrate, its a nice thing to do.

DebiNewberry1997 · 21/03/2022 22:20

I recently got a Japanese style linen apron, a driftwood sculpture of a bird, some fruit bushes, a beautiful wooden board for charcuterie/cheese, a vintage silver brooch, Ishga face cream, some beautiful wooden hand tools for the garden. This is birthday and Christmas stuff. Generally I like things that are secondhand or locally made. Things that make you happy to hold or look at or use. As PP have said a wee list of lovely things is nice to have.

Flatandhappy · 22/03/2022 06:03

Happy birthday for next month.

It is my birthday next month too (not a big one) and I want a flower subscription and - this is really weird - my car valeted. It is filthy and the drive through car washes attached to petrol stations seem to be all gone around here and I always do a half baked job myself.

This is a very luxurious lip moisturiser in a lipstick-style case. A faint shimmer to it. I keep one in every coat pocket. Currently on offer.

Love the fact that there’s a school of thought that ignoring a birthday celebration is morally superior. It isn’t in any way shape or form. I don’t know why people bother coming on threads like this just to boast about how they don’t want anything. You don’t impress anyone and yes it does come over as snide.

OP what do you enjoy doing? There’s usually something I’m wanting for a hobby, and I get a lot of pleasure out of using it to do something creative. It’s also a bit more expensive but I’m going to ask for a 100 stars dressing gown for own birthday this year.

AiryFairy1 · 22/03/2022 06:28

For a couple of friends, a group of us clubbed together to buy one a set of good luggage, the other wanted a set of fancy chef knives.

So 1 or 2 big things rather than lots of small things…

I got a beautiful vintage diamond pendant (which subsequently was stolen in a house move Sad) and a framed mirror.

AiryFairy1 · 22/03/2022 06:30

Otherwise nice tea set, plants in lovely pots, if you’re into gardening - good gloves and secateurs Smile happy birthday 🥳

mcplant · 22/03/2022 08:31

Is there anything bigger you want and can ask people to give you vouchers towards this? A friend did this a few years ago and bought herself a lovely handbag which was from all her friends and family.

felineweird · 22/03/2022 10:26

Soda stream!

ukborn · 22/03/2022 10:53

It's my 60th next week and I'm: going to afternoon tea with my daughter; two dinners out with two sets of friends; treating myself to hair cut and colour (I usually colour at home); getting a facial. Might get a pedi too!
We always give beauty vouchers when one of our group has a birthday.
