How long for pip decision

Asking for someone else. They have chronic back pain. Arthritis. Depression and were alcohol dependant due to pain but now sober. They've sent off for pip 3 and a half weeks ago. They are struggling massively financially and just curious how long it's taken people to receive a decision.

16 weeks currently for my clients In Manchester

Babyroobs · 18/03/2022 16:24

Do you mean they have only just rung for the form or have they completed the form and sent it back 3.5 weeks ago?
It can take months to be assessed. It does depend on back log in any area. Most assessments are still being some by phone but some may be face to face now. Even after he's had the assessment it can be some weeks for a decision, although any award is backdated.
What benefits are they currently on? If claiming UC, have they applied to be assesed for limited capability for work??

ItsDisneyBitch · 18/03/2022 16:27

Following with interest. I filled out dds form in November and sent it off. Had an assessment call 3 weeks ago.

I applied in December. I called for an update last week and was told that it was with the assessors but they have a backlog. I should expect to wait until mid-April before they contact to book an assessment date. Then it can be a further 8 weeks after assessment for a decision!

DoWhatYouLike · 18/03/2022 16:36

I had Covid (on a ventilator for 2 weeks), a stroke, torn tendon in my shoulder, depression and anxiety, and a brain tumour. Been waiting 6 weeks

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/03/2022 16:38

It took mine over 3 months for a renewal last year.

NeedleNoodle3 · 18/03/2022 16:45

16 weeks but then it’s backdated to when you phoned up and asked for the form.

Springhassprung3 · 18/03/2022 16:51

Hes filled the forms out and sent them back Feb 20th. They've received them. He's in agony and struggling to live any sort of life now. Just seems such a long wait. Hes living of £260 universal credit now as job center have taken away his housing benefit and want him to pay back £8000 due to landlord failing to give him a written contract when the last one ended..

A year in London, but threaten to complain to MP and they call you back in a panic.

Springhassprung3 · 18/03/2022 16:53

It's shocking when people are desperate. Such a ridiculous length of time.

Is he handing in sick notes to UC ? He needs to do this and wait to be sent the work capability form if he has not already done this. If awarded LCWRA he will get an extra £343 a month on his UC claim. This could be awarded quicker than PIP will be. They can send him the form after 29 days of handing in sick notes so if he has not received it he needs to request it asap. Can the landlord backdate the contract - you need to speak the CAB or shelter or some place that can help you to appeal this.

5 months start to finish for me

Libertybear80 · 19/03/2022 16:12

It was 14 weeks for my DD but she got back pay.

hazyjinty01 · 19/03/2022 16:16

I started my claim in early October 2021, had phone assessment last week and they say it can take a further eight weeks for a decision in central Scotland

TodayWeShark · 19/03/2022 18:04

9 months for the assessment. Decision made the afternoon of my assessment though.

kitcat15 · 19/03/2022 18:08

7 months from when I phoned to claim

kitcat15 · 19/03/2022 18:11

Is he getting the extra UC? Has he been sending in his sick notes?

ItsDisneyBitch · 23/03/2022 23:19

Well dd’s claim got turned down today. It has completely glossed over everything that was said and the summary looks like words have been twisted. I’m going to appeal first thing. Any one know anything about appealing? I’m actually incandescent with rage over it.

You need to do a mandatory reconsideration. Work out what descriptors you think she should have scored points on and why and supply medical evidence to back up what you are saying.
Dodie66 · 23/03/2022 23:39

Just saw this report and people on PIP already arent getting reviewed when they should and also that it’s taking 22 weeks in some cases for new claimants www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/dwp-confirms-pip-awards-will-continue-while-waiting-for-planned-review?utm_source=iContact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Benefits%20and%20Work&utm_content=23%20March%202022%20newsletter

kizzywizz · 24/03/2022 06:22

Applied July 2021, face to face assessment October, awarded November with backpay.

Hermanfromguesswho · 24/03/2022 06:46

Applied December for DS. Had a phone call to ask some more questions last week and just waiting for a response now. He’s still getting DLA in the mean time while we wait (he’s 16)
