Is there anything I can do to get blood out of bedding that's already been washed?

Absolutely gutted, I had some teeth out yesterday, woke up this morning to find that I've drooled blood onto two of my fairly new pillowcases. I treated them the same way I treat every blood stained thing (cold salt water) then washed them but they haven't come out! Is there anything I can do or are they doomed to be stained forevermore now?

Not necessarily ruined - I had this with blood on some light grey joggers this week....I put them back in the wash with a pre wash cycle, I put vanish powder in for the pre wash and added it to the main wash with the normal powder as well and the stain has come out. Good luck.

Put them out in the sun and it'll bleach the stain.

If all else fails, dye them!

Elbow grease spray has been good for getting stains out for me. I spray it on and leave it for a bit, then throw in the machine and it usually gets stains out

Notanotherwindow · 18/03/2022 13:13

Make a paste out of bio washing powder and salt water. Scrub in and leave on for half hour, then wash as normal or on a stain cycle if your machine has one.

What fabric is the pillow case? Cotton, polycotton, silk? Also what colour? Just because if white cotton for instance then maybe a drop or two of neat bleach directly on the stain for a few minutes and then a rewash might work.

Lovelydovey · 18/03/2022 13:19

Sunshine! Hang it outside.

NoNeedToWorryAboutAThing · 18/03/2022 13:19

I washed white heavily blood stained (period) cotton bed linen on a 40 degree wash with Daz on the eco (3 hour cycle) cleaned the lot as the first shorter wash hadn't worked.

AmbushedByCake1 · 18/03/2022 13:20

You want vanish oxy action spray or a supermarket copy (tesco do one in a pink spray bottle).

Spray on and wash with bio washing powder.

Gets all blood out every time.

I always use washing up liquid on every single stain and I actually can’t think of anything it hasn’t worked on (including blood)

Calennig · 18/03/2022 13:23

If washing again with something like vanish doesn't work - then lemon juice and sun - you can rub in with salt or tooth brush - it acts like a natural bleach and is surprisingly effective.

LaraDeSalle · 18/03/2022 13:30

Ace bleach. Use a cotton bus to apply directly to the blood stains. Leave for ten minutes then wash as normal.

Vanish and then another cool wash.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 18/03/2022 17:29

Can't use bleach, it would ruin them completely! It's faded a bit in the sun, but still quite noticeable especially on the white bit. I'll try more stuff to get it out next week when I have time.

Napisan

gogohm · 18/03/2022 17:36

Spot bleach the white bits - use a cotton bud to get it in the right spot

Normal vanish or similar spray and then washing at 60 works, but recently I've had a couple of occasions where for some unknown reason it's not, and I've thought that's it, the blood's sealed in now. But, when washing again using the exact same method, the stain's completely come out! (No idea why).
