After years of loneliness, bullying and so many tears (from both of us), this weekend she’s going to the cinema with a group of friends!

We really hoped high school would be a fresh start and she’d make lots of new friends, but it was even harder than primary school.

When she sent me a text asking if she could go I could have jumped up and danced!

Anyway, I just had to share this good news with someone! Smile

I really hope it all goes well Smile

Brilliant for your DC and for you too. Wish you both well and I'm sure it's a new direction now x

For anyone whose kid hasn’t reached this stage yet, I hope one day they find their tribe.

So much this. DD just found her Nerd Herd at 11. After years of me faking being OK with serious friendship challenges. Not one party invitation the first year of school type of challenges. I faked so well that she's convinced herself I'm annoyed with her growing up.

I'm so so happy.

Thank you for this lovely post. I'm so glad for your daughter, and for you. Well done both of you. I hope she has a fantastic night.

Motnight · 18/03/2022 19:41

I hope that she has a lovely time!

It's wonderful to see your child happy isn't it?! My dd had sn (not asd) and has struggled socially in the past. Recently things have improved. Yesterday she was so pleased to see her friends at school drop off, she forgot to say goodbye to me as she rushed off to chat with them! Made me so happy!

2catsandhappy · 18/03/2022 19:49

I get it. My dd ASD had one friend at school and has gone out once to meet her, 3 years ago.
I hope today is the start of future dd meet ups.

@CockapooMum

That's lovely. My daughter also has autism and selective mutism and didn't have one friend during high school. She's at uni now and living in a house share, has friends and regularly goes clubbing with them even tho it makes her uncomfortable at times she pushes herself to be more social and each time I do a happy dance 💃
My Dd has ASD and selective mutism too. Ds has Aspergers (as it was called when he was Dx'd) They are such lovely young people & so horribly lonely at High School. It's good to know it gets better - thank you @CockapooMum

OP - I am chuffed to bits for you and your Dd of course.
I hope she has a great time.
A film is ideal - good conversation points after :)
