Staying in I mean. Bonus if easy to cook. Not a takeaway though as I have to drive miles to get one!

We have quite a few that we switch between but a favourite is curry night.

We use the spice Taylor kit with spices and paste so feel a bit more authentic than a jar but still fairly low effort. DH makes awesome homemade spiced onion, bang in the microwave coconut or jasmine rice, & supermarket Nan breads, I also recommend the home-pop popadoms which taste much nicer than the packs

Two of my DD’s are teenagers so will have a little french larger with it and how I bribe them to converse with us one meal a week and it’s just all feels rather sociable and special after a busy week of being passing ships.

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant that sounds really good. Where do you buy the buttermilk?

MadinMarch · 18/03/2022 11:32

Calves liver and caramelised onions with a potato/swede/carrot mash.

@MonkeyPuddle
How do the crumbs fare when the chicken water up? When I bake chicken it always gives out water first before drying which is usually okay with spices but not sure about breadcrumbs?

Chicken breast sliced thin lengthwise... marinate with soya sauce, vinegar, garlic n ginger powder. Marinate for as long as you can then pan fry. Serve with young potatoes, salad or wedges. Yum

Morrison's sells buttermilk in the milk/cream section but you can also find it in the Polish section of most supermarkets. The chicken will still taste great without the buttermilk marinade but it does make it exceptionally juicy and tender.

Nachos with melted cheese and alllll the topics: no nutritional value, such a treat

Xmasbaby11 · 18/03/2022 11:47

Similar to pp

Fajitas
Spaghetti carbonara
Homemade curry with some fresh samosas, nan etc bought locally
Chicken schnitzel- easier to make than nuggets
Homemade burgers

Some of these are normal mid week meals but at the weekend we'd have sides eg oven chips. Homemade wedges. Dough balls (breadmaker)

MonkeyPuddle · 18/03/2022 11:51

@ImAGummyBear they’re crispy, I don’t know if it’s because I use thighs rather than breast meat?

ImAGummyBear · 18/03/2022 12:01

@MonkeyPuddle
Aaah that could be the reason. Thanks!

SockFluffInTheBath · 18/03/2022 12:07

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant thank you

MonkeyPuddle · 18/03/2022 12:14

@ImAGummyBear I just the boneless and skinless ones, chopped roughly into thirds.

MarianosOnHisWay · 18/03/2022 12:15

Nachos

reluctantbrit · 18/03/2022 12:17

If it is a proper treat like movie night with eating in front of the TV then we do chicken nuggets (homemade but I also buy M&S ones) plus chips.

If I cook, then lasagne or enchilladas.

HelloTreacle9 · 18/03/2022 12:44

Homemade Wagamama-style chicken katsu curry here tonight. Bash out breasts between two sheets of cling film with a rolling pin on mallet, coat in seasoned flour, then egg, then panko breadcrumbs, shallow fry till crispy. Sticky rice (make same way as normal rice, one cup of rice to one and half cups of water, salt, bring to boil, lid on, heat right down, time for 12 minutes exactly and do not remove lid) (or just microwavé pack of any rice). Make katsu curry sauce from a mix. Tinned sweetcorn or other veggies on the side. Clean plates every time. It's a low-level faff but obviously have a G&T on the go at the same time.

You can make a buttermilk substitute by squeezing a bit of lemon juice into milk and giving it a few minutes to thicken up!

Fish & Chips from shop.

Namechangestimes100 · 18/03/2022 13:22

We’re having tandoor chicken (bough spice mix and just marinate over night with yoghurt) saag paneer (homemade) with rice and chapatis (home made) maybe paratha (homemade) if I can be bothered. Proper takeaway vibes :)

junglejane66 · 18/03/2022 15:32

@tigerbear

Chicken Kievs and chips
Should be renamed 'Chicken Kyiv' now, there is a petition on FB for the supermarkets to change the name
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 18/03/2022 15:41

@MonkeyPuddle

Oh and to make any tea a treat I Chuck a blanket on the living room floor and declare it a picnic. My kids love it.
My DD is 13 now and still loves the odd occasion when we do this Grin
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 18/03/2022 15:43

Btw, fajhitas are ace cooked in the oven rather than doing on the hob ... stops the house stinking and all the peppers and onions caramelise and get chewy edges. And the juices mix with the little oil you use to make an almost gravy like sauce. Soooo good. Also, use chicken thighs as tastier.

Steelesauce · 18/03/2022 15:47

Faggots, mash, mushy peas with crusty bread and proper butter is a firm favourite (faggot friday)

Last week I bought a cooked chicken, ready made bowl of salad, selection of cheeses, grapes and a French stick. Sliced the chicken on a plate, cut and buttered the bread, sliced up the cheeses and laid it out picnic style on a blanket with a movie on. We had cream cakes for pud.

VampireMoney · 18/03/2022 15:56

We alway have Mexican on Friday, everything out on the table so it yourself style. Fajitas and nachos.

CoodleMoodle · 18/03/2022 16:01

We always have fajitas, crispy fajitas or tacos on a Friday.
