10 year old hair removal

DD, just turned 10, has very hairy legs. Quite pale skin and dark hair. She's asked a couple
of times now about removing it but has been put off by my stubbly legs! She also has hair on her top lip which she has commented on a couple of times.

I'm not very into beauty/makeup/etc so not quite sure what to suggest to her. I don't wear make up because it looks weird around my lips, I have the same hair distribution! I shave my legs because if I use an epilator, most grow back under the skin.

I also didn't start until I was about 13, and that was after PE at school because my mum wouldn't let me. Is 10 too young? She plays for an U13 team so it maybe coming from there rather than school. I don't want to refuse if she really wants to but I'm also not sure which is the best way to go or how to discuss it with her.

What about an electric razor to start? You can get those that are like a foil edge with the blades underneath so almost impossible to cut herself.

Start with good practice - after a steamy shower so pores are open, really good scrub with loofah/body brush to get rid of the dead skin around the folicle (makes for a pain free shave and fewer to no ingrown hairs) and use shaving cream or product (I believe people rave about baby oil on here?). Then no products applied to the same area for at least 8 hours after.

For the mustache I'd recommend threading - lasts a lot longer, less risk of ingrown. Take her to go and get it done.

I second the electric razor x

Electric razor for legs to and then a Venus as and when.

I get a horrible rash from using wax or threading on top lip. Avoid anything or use a tinkle razor (dermaplane) or more likely facial veet (hair removing cream)

I know 10 seems young but my parents were adamant I wasn't allowed at that age, and I did it anyway and really messed my leg up with my Dad's cheap razor!
I would teach her how to shave her legs using a decent razor and shaving foam, so she knows what to do. The same for her underarms if she needs them.
For her top lip, I would take her to a beautician and see if they recommend bleaching, waxing or threading.

I don’t think 10 is too young, every child is different. I remember at 11 being laughed at for my hairy legs and armpits. My oldest dd is about to turn 10, we’ve talked about this, she knows when she’s ready we will do what she wants.

I’m not sure what to advise on top lip, mine were hairy when younger, I just use to pull the hairs out with tweezers and they eventually stopped coming back. Not sure if I’d recommend that to a child though.

Legs my dd and I have talked about a Venus razor, 5 blades, I won’t use anything less as they give a smoother shave. Also I always use shaving gel now as I find it’s far better than soap. I never liked electric razors but would happily get one if dd wants.

I would sit her down and go through the options. Google is great for looking up pros and cons with her. Let her choose, if she’s hanging round with older girls she may already know how she wants to do things.

My DD shaved her legs and uses my epilator on her armpits. 10yo is not too young IMO if it's bothering her.

I've been shaving my top lip for years. I couldn't bring myself to thread it (eyebrows are painful enough) and my one waxing experience left me with a red moustache for a week. It's obviously more blunt but it works effectively if I do it every day (I'm 32 and have been doing it since I was 14/15). She's going to have decades of hair removal so I don't see the harm in letting her start now if she wants to. Forcing her into hair removal is a very different thing to allowing her to remove hair if she wants to. I remember when I was that age I was desperately waiting for my mum to give me permission to shave. It never happened so I just started by myself using the razor she left in the bathroom.

Take her to a beautician for her upper lip, but maybe go first to check they are decent?

Upper lip is quite painful for threading unfortunately… waxing might be a better bet for that reason

What about bleaching for upper lip? I can’t wax or pluck as I get spots in this area.

So I use Jolen bleach and then trim hairs with nail scissors! Works brilliantly and no corse re growth either.
