Boring thread -vacuum recommendations please

My 12yo vacuum has stopped picking up at all. It also makes a strange noise when in use. Since it's 12 years old and has taken a huge amount of use with pets (hay and sawdust from the guinea pigs and hair from the dog) I don't think anyone is likely to be able to fix it. So I need a new one.

It needs to
*Cope with a Labrador who sheds an awful lot of hair
*Have a relatively large cylinder/bag
*We'd prefer an upright but that's not essential
*Be within budget. We don't want the cheapest so it breaks quickly but can't really afford the most expensive ones.

I’m in the same boat. I read an older thread on mumsnet about recommendations with Dyson, Shark, AEG and Miele being the most popular. One of my friends has a Dyson V7 which she thoroughly recommends, however, I think it might be too small for your needs.

I have a shark pet and bloody love it. I bought it on a lightning deal with 40% off though and it isnt cheap full price.

Miele Cats and Dogs is great. Does what it says on the tin🤓

Thanks. I'll have a look at both of those and see what we can afford/like the look of.

I'm also a fan of the Miele Cat & Dog.

Shark with the hair technology thingy is fantastic.

I've spent a FORTUNE on vacs - dysons, sharks etc. The one that ive been happiest with BY FAR is a pet (green) henry.
The others all clogged with pet hair at some stage and i spent so much time taking them apart to clean - total nightmare.
There HAS to be a reason that cleaners, chimney sweeps and engineers all seem to use henrys. So reliable, great suction and never seem to need cleaning/unblocking.
I will never bother trying anything else now.

We have had 2 Dysons, one was an original that used to be my nan's and it lasted years. When that eventually packed up we got a Hoover that wasn't great and then another Dyson which wasn't as good as the original one and the hose kept splitting when using the attachments. We had it repaired 3 times before giving up.
Then we had a Shark which was great for about a year and then stopped picking up. The man at the repair shop said it is really hard to get parts for them so we got rid of that and now have a Henry. It is by far the best vacuum we have ever had, not expensive but does the job and does it well. There is obviously a reason why cleaners always have Henrys! I would recommend it above any of the more expensive ones we have had.
