What should I get dd for her 21st?

Dd will be 21yo in a few days and technically I haven’t got her anything apart from a jigsaw. She’s going on holiday and I’m giving her £300 spending money. Me and dh got her a 6k car last year as I was sick of her old banger breaking down all the time. I half jokingly said to her it was an early 21st but I just feel bad that she won’t really have anything for her birthday.

Would I be mean to not get her anything else and remind her about the car. She doesn’t want or need anything as far as I’m aware. I thought about a piece of jewellery but not sure what she’d like.

£300 is loads! And she had a CAR last year! I think she’ll be OK…

QuebecBagnet · 17/03/2022 14:40

Thank you. That is my gut feeling, wasn’t sure if I was being mean!

I've never been given £300 by my parents! That's a great gift and means she'll really enjoy her holiday.

I understand why you'd want to give her something nice to open. A lovely item of makeup (perhaps Charlotte Tilbury or Glossier for a 21 year old) and some lovely grown up pyjamas?

Beebumble2 · 17/03/2022 15:01

Although you’ve been very generous, you might like to get something to open on the day. A delicate silver necklace with a heart might be appropriate and not too expensive.

theremustonlybeone · 17/03/2022 15:01

If you want to get her somethin maybe do a moonpig card with photos of her. My DD likes receiving these. I sent her on holiday for her 18th and also got her a pandora bracelet and charm

ItsSnowJokes · 17/03/2022 15:03

I got my daughter a tiffany necklace for her 21st engraved with 21 on the back. She wears it all the time.

Holothane · 17/03/2022 15:08

Creaky that’s fabulous present I got a tenner from the cow who brought me up.

NeedleNoodle3 · 17/03/2022 15:08

My DC loved the personalised glasses (drinking) I had made for them for their 21st birthdays. I’m not sure if you’d have time to order something like that.

QuebecBagnet · 17/03/2022 18:12

I’ve just ordered a giant Moonpig card with loads of photos of her through the ages, great idea. I’m not really sure enough of her tastes to splurge on a Tiffany necklace but will have a look at Pandora. Thanks.

My parents got me an Edwardian pendant and a painting. I love both. Neither were massively expensive.

SarahBellam · 17/03/2022 18:28

What's your budget? John Lewis do Hot Diamonds which is beautiful, simple, elegant, wearable, silver with a tiny diamond or two in it.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/hot-diamonds-open-heart-memories-pendant-necklace/p264221?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Be careful with the Pandora, my DD is 21 and it isn't a 'thing' with any of them. The link above might be a safer bet (unless of course you know she loves Pandora)!

QuebecBagnet · 17/03/2022 19:20

I found a silver heart necklace on Etsy from a small jewellery maker which looked nice so have ordered that.

Maybe make a birthday slideshow with her pictures from childhood to the current day and add a gift card to a jewelry store or some smaller jewelry like a necklace or a bracelet. It feels like £300 is enough.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/03/2022 10:01

£300 is a generous gift Smile

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/03/2022 10:02

I'd put the 300 spending money in an envelope and a photo her car wrapped in with the jigsaw Grin

You could even get a jigsaw made with a photo of her car on it!!
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/03/2022 10:19

Even better!

Amei · 18/03/2022 10:25

Pandora do some nice birthstone rings / necklaces / bracelets and the March birthstone is lovely xx

rbe78 · 18/03/2022 10:52

You're already giving her the £300 and a car, which is a pretty good 21st present - better than a piece of jewellery she may not like and will feel obliged to wear for ever more!

One thing my folks got me for my 21st was a few cases of fizz, so I could throw a great party with my friends. What about something similar for your DD?

Holothane · 18/03/2022 14:55

I ended up with cheap silver chains from family members never worn binned years later.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/03/2022 19:24

I wanted to buy my dd1 a diamond bracelet for her 21st but as she said (with truth) she’d probably only lose or break it, she’d prefer cash for making (holiday) memories with.
So by that token IMO your holiday spending money for your dd is spot on. I’d still want to get her something little to open, though.
