Water bill discount

Not many people know about it.
My water supply is with united utilities.
I applied for a water meter as only me and partner. My water bill was £56pm
Due to having a shared water pipe I can't have a meter , but the nice man said that as I was trying to save money, there's a discount scheme, based on your fixed charge
This is basically calculated on house type .
I received an email with a new bill. £30 pm!!
This saving of course cancelled out by every other increase 🙄
This is just my experience with UU, not sure if other providers do the same , but thought I would put it out there.

Hi
Good for you
I am with a Thames and they run the same scheme. It’s probably a national agreement

It's called an Assessed Measured Charge.
All water companies should offer it when technicalities mean a water meter can't be fitted.

Really!
I never knew about it 🙄
I hope though there's some people on here who don't and it helps them.

We have this with Yorkshire Water. The saving isn't as great, it reduces our bill from about £50 to £40 pm so better than nothing.

There are also schemes for people on low incomes that have medical conditions that mean their water usage is higher than average, watersure I believe it's called.

There's lots of ways to reduce bills and other costs if you look for them. Moneysaving Expert is a good resource.

One of the most common ones that no-one ever seems to know about, although I'm not sure why as there's a poster about it in every pharmacy in the country is that, if you're one of the minority who pays for prescriptions, you can get a prepay card for £10 a month. People complain about prescription costs, but most are free, and absolutely no-one has to pay more than £10 a month.

There's lots of help available for people struggling with gas and electricity costs. Also if you're on universal credit, you can get a special broadband tariff for about £10-15 pm.
