In trouble for noise from children?

Can you get in trouble for noise from child from next door?
I'm having behavioural problems with my child at the minute
Screaming
Stomping
Is this something I can get in trouble for?
Cos they're putting noise recording equipment in

Yeah, start the diagnosis process if you have concerns. It takes ages. Start asap. Preferably before they are a teen and, erm, expand their vocabulary

Northernsoullover · 16/03/2022 22:04

Noise from children wouldn't be deemed a statutory nuisance. You shouting might be considered unreasonable noise but even that would be difficult to prove. Are you doing everything you can to mitigate the noise? Ie carpet instead of laminate?

Campervangirl · 16/03/2022 22:05

I had a terrible neighbour, shouting through the wall, threats etc but he blamed me for doing exactly what he was doing to me.
I called the police multiple times, kept a diary etc.
He was offered recording equipment, I was furious as I was the victim, I was told that he was offered the equipment as it would prove I wasn't shouting at him.
If your DC is shouting and stomping take them out of the way when they start, remove them to a room away from adjoining walls, also if you suspect asd get it logged with the gp, ask for an assessment so there's a record.
Try not to worry

The house has carpet all over apart from the bathroom and kitchen

To be honest I rarely shout. Because I don't find it helps or improves the situation

I have a meeting with school about her behaviour.
I don't know whether to go down the route of diagnosing yet....
Her dad has ADHD...

If you pursued a noise complaint in your own right you should have been offered equipment if a warning letter failed to stop the noise.

Do they keep this noise equipment there forever or take it back after a certain amount of time?

Your kid would have to be sustainably screaming (very loudly!) after 11pm and before 7am for the council to be able to do anything about it. And even then kids making noise is going to be hard to act against.

Dresslover1950s · 17/03/2022 06:08

I think it’s a week to two weeks it’s left there for if it’s the same equipment I had they will be running around everytime they hear something to click a button they won’t be able to play it back only the council can do that once they have collected it

implantreplace · 17/03/2022 06:11

You need o go to the GP about your child to progress support

That will take ages! But the key is ha the disturb has been medically documented

So that’s your defence re the noise

Sleepeatrepeat · 17/03/2022 06:16

Try not to worry. The equipment will be there for a few weeks (if it even is going in they could have lied to the police).

It sounds more like bullying and intimidation tactics to me.

Carry on as you are and definitely get your dd assessed. O. The off chance the aren't lying about the equipment you may fond a diagnosis means your are covered by the protected categories section of the equality act.

Ignore the twat neighbours and carry on as you are.

Rosesareyellow · 17/03/2022 06:21

I think if the screaming is so severe that you’re worried about environmental health getting involved then in actual fact that’s the least of your worries - you need to get some support with your child’s behaviour. Ignore the neighbours, and go and see your gp. Does your school have a family support worker who can help?

GrendelsGrandma · 17/03/2022 06:49

Google it, not a chance in hell there will be any action if it's in daytime hours and just from your child being himself. Local council doesn't want to be on the front page saying they're clamping down on kids.

GeneLovesJezebel · 17/03/2022 07:13

You should see your GP so that you can show you are trying to do something about it. This is about defending yourself should there be any complaint from the council after the recordings.
Be pro active now, not after.

The report was cited as noise nuisance from slamming doors
We don't slam doors
But obviously any noise they will try to get us with
Can they slam their door and say it's us?

Noise harassment actually...
