What’s your ideal house downstairs like?

Just for fun/lighthearted! in the stages of dreaming about our future home purchase and extension thoughts etc as we are planning a full remodel. If it ever happens….

Currently thinking large kitchen/dining/family room, living room, utility, maybe small office and downstairs loo. It’s a fairly small footprint so wasn’t sure I could fit anything else in. If you could design your ideal home, what would be a must room for downstairs? We are a young family, outdoorsy, with dogs.

French windows from the dining room opening into a verandah with a porch swing on it. Massive garden with shrubberies and potting shed and secret bits, leading to a wood.

This sounds lovely, always wanted a big garden with lots of secret bits and woods. But only with someone else to do the gardening. And of course a porch swing, or a covered double swing bench in the garden. I do have a swing bench but its in bad shape so I dismiss it from my daydreams and have a much nicer one instead.

The house I posted a link to hits most of my requirements! I think it was/is owned by Stacey Forsey from the Real Housewives of Cheshire. I like her style!

We’ve just finalised ours.

Double doors everywhere. Allows you to open up the space, but still have privacy and noise deadening.

I am convinced open plan is on its way out. In 10 years time there will be renovation programs about people buying dated open plan properties and building walls to modernise Grin

L shaped entryway with hidden WC/shower room, into atrium dining room with staircase.

Large kitchen off (with pocket door).

Hidden utility/boot room.

Gym (modified conservatory) accessed via boot room.
Double doors to living room off atrium (opposite side to kitchen).
Through further double doors to sitting room (the quiet room with the nice view).
Study also accessed off atrium.
All rooms have french doors to outside.

@Liverbird77 I just opened your link and literally laughed out loud before closing it to write this. You've given me a good chuckle. I'm now off back to RM to have a good look at our dream house. 🤣

Love ours. It's open plan but you cannot see the kitchen or playroom from the front door. it's in a v shape and the two walls divide the space. Also you cannot see the dirty pans etc from the seating area. Also have utility.

It'd ideal for us. Lots of storage so no mess most of the timeGrin

That house is a lot more tastefully done than I thought it was going to be
