I usually bumble along ok, but need to get my routine sorted! I need peace and ease!

So I have today and tomorrow off then the long stretch.
Have a list to do then need to prepare. Help?!
Basic facts, leave the house at 8, return at 6.30 ish. (Half hour walk) very physical job so I just want to flop when I get in.
3 DC.
2 dogs.
What can I do in advance to make this easier then not be left with a shit hole house and a long to do list when I finish?

Meal planning. Lots of easy meals. Ready meal night here and there and then beans on toast, fish fingers and chips etc. Get bags of salad, cucumber and fruit in to make it easier to at least have some fruit or veg element. But it helps loads to know roughly what you will eat and to have the stuff in. Online shopping delivery helps too.

For the time you’re working learn to walk past the mess and dirt, or do a five minute tidy for the worst of it.

I guess you wear a uniform but if not prep outfits for every day.

Make you you have enough dishwasher tabs etc and do washing up straight away, but keep it to a minimum.

Put something on the floor for wet doggy paw prints and through away (newspaper?) or wash at the end (old towels)

Good point. Will put on tomorrow's list to sort online shops for the two weekends.

Towel at the back door a genius idea for the dogs!

@TwoDaysOff I'd put the preteens to work doing laundry every couple of days.

TwoDaysOff · 16/03/2022 19:01

Right dinner is cooked and the DC are eating so bumping this for any tips of things I can do this evening. Today's list is done

Tomorrow I am ordering the shopping to get slots that fit with my schedule
Prepping ten days worth of uniform.

What else?

Batch cook some soup. That way you can just reheat with fresh bread.

Do you have a dog walker? Where are the dogs during the day? Think about extending that walk / time.

Agree preteens should be able to sort and fold laundry. They can do floors to - hoovering.

Check calendar now for any birthdays that require cards, gifts etc or any school events, bring a cake, dress up as a bunch of asparagus day, and so on.
If anyone has any prescriptions check no repeats needed.
Fill car with fuel (added bonus of the fact that, if prices continue to increase at current rate you will save your self a couple of quid).

Dress up as an asparagus Grin
Thay said, you have reminded me I need a gift for the weekend, so thank you!

I filled the car with fuel when it was only (!) 154 so that's covered off too. I walk to work so only random trips needed, none foreseen but glad to have it there in case!
Scripts for SEN filled a couple of days ago as well, but very good thought!

I don't know how often you change sheets and towels but worth having a spare set ready. I wouldn't bother with sheets for 10 days but towels get a bit damp and dry slowly this time of year.

Make sure you have enough food and medication for the furry family members, and spare painkillers / antacids / any medication for you.

And a piece of paper on the fridge for anyone to write down the food they have used up! (ketchup, butter etc). My OH is rubbish at doing this. Then you can add to online shop app as you go along.

Treat yourself to a nice delivery dinner after your last shift!

Leftbutcameback · 16/03/2022 23:02

And you probably have these already but Tesco do some great micro bags of veg with a chilli sauce, or Mexican rice with beans (frozen). Quick, healthy, and you can bung them on a jacket or with something like a tuna steak. Nice and quick.

Set alarms or reminders for the things you need to do when you get home.

Also make a list for every day so you know what you have to do if you’re particularly overwhelmed one day!

Keep a running note in your phone of things to add to your lists throughout the day as and when you remember things.

Try to factor in at least half an hour of you time to try to avoid burnout.
