Possible PCOS causing major anxiety.

Hi, so I'm going for a scan on my ovaries on Friday, I'm so anxious about it as they're suspecting I have PCOS.

For the last 2/3 years I have being having periods ever 2 months ish and then all of a sudden I'm on cycle day 137.

I am over weight but I have lost 10lb so far and can't seem to lose any more. However I'm eating clean and exercising still.

I think I'm just really worried because my partner has said that he's ready for another baby (we have a 6yo) and I've been ready for about three years to be honest and now its like everything isn't going according to plan.

I know other people have it worse and don't have any children at all and really struggle to conceive (my step mum struggled for years) i guess I'm just looking for some words of wisdom and to know I'm not on my own and to be honest it feels good to get this off my chest.

Thanks guys.

Please don't stress. PCOS is pretty common and lots of women with PCOS have babies. Far better to know and not waste months/years before seeking extra help (IF it's needed). Lots of women conceive with a little extra help to ovulate. And the scan isn't awful!

PCOS diagnosed and confirmed by ultrasound 4 years ago, but I now have a 2 year old and I'm 17 weeks pregnant. I had about 2 or 3 periods a year before my firstborn and since my periods restarted after him I was like clockwork every month since until I got pregnant again. Try not to stress!

Thank you @BritInAus

@Yebbie that's amazing, to be honest i think I'm so worried because before having my DS my periods were normal and its only been the last 2/3 years that things have been all over but the last year especially my periods have been all over 🙁
Is PCOS something that can just occur? I'm so clueless and honestly there's so much mixed information out there!!

Hi Ya,

when has life ever gone to any plan! This is life - please inform your partner, when he is ready for a baby doesnt come into it!

I have PCOS I lost a lot of weight and suddenly and accidently conceived my other wonderful dd. To achieve No 2 I went on metformin and lost more weight.

Its about weight gain - carbs. You should have already been told to go low GI?

baabiee · 15/03/2022 23:16

@Papertyger i think you have misunderstood, i am the one that is desperate for a baby and he is the one that hasn't been ready and now that he is ready i seem to be having all these issues.

I haven't actually been diagnosed with anything yet, hence the anxiety of the scan that will diagnose.

Also I haven't gained any weight at all in the last 12 months my weight though high hasn't got any higher, i maintained the weight for ages before deciding i needed to lose some. And i have but I can't seem to lose any more.

oh sorry!

Thats good.

Ok well its not about gaining weight just loosing it - i think I read 10lbs is the golden no?

oh and also I took agnus castus - whether it worked....who knows - but GI diet, more walking, metformin...

There are a tonne of threads on here about PCOS success stories - have a read and it might put your mind at rest. I was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago now and conceived DD1 using metformin and letrozole - she is now 9months old. Yes it was more stressful / medical than if we had been able to conceive naturally, but what matters is that she is here.

The good news is that you are having scans and in the system. In my experience, things moved pretty quickly after that. Just make sure that when you see a doctor to discuss the scan results (i got an appt for a few weeks later) you tell them you are TTC as the treatment can be different depending on whether you are TTC / breastfeeding or not.
