Do you think 7pm is late for a 5 y/o swimming lesson?

Just that really. DS has just moved up a grade and the teacher wants him to go to the 7pm class.
I think its really quite late for a reception child to be out, plus all the faffing after.
Am I being a bit precious?

Far too late IMO. My reception aged child is in bed by 6.45pm

I wouldn't take that option. Its far too late!

Seems a bit late to me.

Thanks, I thought I wasn't being unreasonable.
You'd think they'd stage it so the younger ones went early and the bigger dc later on really.
Even I don't like to be out past 8pm in the week Grin

We did it with dd1 when she was 6 or 7 and it was fine but she has a lot of energy. Dd2 would have struggled.

Depends a bit on how busy the day is and what time she would get to bed compared to usual.

How long would he be going at that time? Kids tend to go to sleep later in spring and summer so it might not be a massive issue if he would likely move up again by autumn?

Riceycakes · 15/03/2022 19:30

My kids wouldn’t be able to do that, they would be far too tired

TonkaTruckduck · 15/03/2022 19:31

I like him in bed by 7 on a shool night really.
Swimming seems to make him ravenous, so there's the changing, getting home, supper etc, he wouldn't really be asleep til 8.30 ish.

Mine would never have managed that at that age. They were in bed for 7.30.

shabbalabba · 15/03/2022 19:32

It depends
How long is the lesson?
How far is your home from the pool?

If it's a half an hour or 40mins and you live 2 mins up then road then yes I would.

If it's a hour lesson and you live half an hour away then no...

Our reception aged DS would be too tired by then, he is in a good routine and asleep before then. You would also need to get them ready, give them supper etc before bed and time would just run away so YANBU thinking it too late.
