Blood tests...repeat bloods...infective markers.

At the end of Feb I had a routine blood test done during an asthma review as I hadn't had a blood test done since before Covid.
The results came back the next day, which showed my infective markers were up and to rebook in 2 weeks for a repeat blood test.

They came back today saying I need to see a GP.

Now obviously my mind is now whirring with alsorts of situations.

Anyone know exactly what infective markers are and if they're still raised what happens next?

TIA

CRP is used in our department to measure infection. It’s non specific though so it can tell you there is infection or inflammation but not where.

After COVID they might take a while to normalise.

I haven't had covid, I meant I haven't had blood tests since before the pandemic.

For the last few months I've had intense itching all over my body to the point it keeps me awake at night, could this be a reason my infective markers are up?

Yes depending on what a causing the itching. For example liver inflammation causes itching and the inflammation would cause the CRP to go up. Try not to worry. It’s good your GP is seeing you. Let us know how you get on.

Was it white cell count (wcc) or CRP? Depends on the numbers really and also the symptoms at the time. A high number would trigger a review but wouldn’t necessarily need antibiotics or tests if it was only mildly raised and the patient was well

I should add that the most likely scenario is that it’s nothing to worry about!

GinAndMe · 15/03/2022 19:34

It is probably nothing to worry about it was just the way she wouldn't tell me what my bloods said and that I needed to see a GP. I've been putting the itching down to eczema but lately the itching is everywhere!! And it's like a crawling sensation rather than an itching! I will update! Thanks.

Hi all, just a little update incase anyone wants to know. Went for my appointment today, they took a sample of the bloody discharge and an ultrasound.the ultrasound showed a very small lump so they had to do biopsy. I'm glad I didn't read about how a biopsy is done because, omg the needles were huge Shock.I'm very sore but hopefully that'll go away soon.

They're said there's nothing to worry about and they'll call me when the results are back in a week.

Inflammatory (not inflamative) markers (CRP) measure inflammation or infection in the body but as a PP said, it can't pinpoint where. CRP should be 4 or under if there is no inflammation or infection. I recently had a nasty sinus infection and my CRP was 69. Comparatively, somebody who has very recently had major surgery with an incision can have their CRP in the low 100's.
