It's not sad all. Not everyone wants to get married!
I might be wrong, but I don’t think @Tippexy is sad because the Op might not get to be a princess for the day.
I’m certainly sad because I see yet another woman sleepwalking into a situation where she and her child will potentially be financially screwed over.
The woman takes the maternity leave, the career hit, the loss of promotion , the pension reduction and the mummy career track.
The woman takes on most of the unpaid work of child care, housework, emotional labour and wife work.
She goes back to work part time, her job is less fun and less well rewarded and she does all the unpaid work on top. She is tired and frustrated.
The woman does all this because she believes they are a team , he will appreciate her sacrifices for him and look after her financially.
Then they split up ( as more than half of all couples do ) and she has taken all the risk and financial losses while he walks off into the sunset, complaining that he has to pay child support.
He tells everyone that she wasn’t fun anymore, lost her figure, didn’t pay him enough attention and didn’t pull her weight financially.
He has an excellent income and pension while she struggles to make ends meet and fit being a full time mum around a full time job.
