Supermarket Party Sandwiches - one day out of date. Okay to eat?

My husband ordered food for a family gathering today. He collected them yesterday and didn’t see they had a ‘eat on day of collection’ marked on them Sad
Do you think they are okay to serve? Mix of veggie and meats.

Should add they’ve been in our fridge

Do they smell ok?

Moonopoly · 13/03/2022 12:44

Yes they smell fine but looking online it seems to say sniff shouldn’t be used for ‘use by’ dates

There’s quite a lot of them Sad

Hmmm. I would probably eat them, but I don’t think I would serve them to guests.

FreyaMaya · 13/03/2022 12:45

Id definitely use them.

Pyri · 13/03/2022 12:45

They’ll be absolutely fine, the Brad might not be as fresh and any salad might be a bit soggy but they won’t be off in any way

No sad face needed, eat away!

MrsVeryTired · 13/03/2022 12:47

They'll be fine, not as fresh as yesterday but definitely ok

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/03/2022 12:48

I’d certainly eat them. Wouldn’t give to young kids or vulnerable adults.

Maybe put in a baking tray, grate a bit of extra cheese on top and hot oven for 10 minutes ‘til “piping” hot, as they say. That should kill anything off.

andysgirl22 · 13/03/2022 12:49

I think they will be fine from a food safety point of view but if any of them have cucumber or tomatoe etc. In then they could have gone a bit soggy.also sometimes find that the bread on the outside aide of the sandwich can go a little bit crisper/staler if not covered and left a while after. To be honest with you my partner frequently buys reduced sandwiches and doesn't eat them.for a day or two and they have always always been fine. I know that if its for a family gathering you will want them to be more perfect than just got a snaffling snack but i honestly tho k your only potential problem is a little bit soggy if they have a lot of "wet" vegetable type filljngs such as the cucumber.

123walrus · 13/03/2022 12:50

I’d eat them

andysgirl22 · 13/03/2022 12:50

Sorry for my typing a badly spelt essay just to say what other posters have said except i said it much more waffley. Was trying to be supportive honest.

Return2thebasic · 13/03/2022 12:50

Usually we don't mind if passed the date by a day. But we won't give it to the kids or guest and wouldn't leave it for more than 2 days.

justaweeone · 13/03/2022 12:52

Absolutely fine!

VariationsonaTheme · 13/03/2022 12:52

They’ll just be a bit soggy and limp, rather than harmful. No caterer is going to provide food which is out of date that day.

TimBoothseyes · 13/03/2022 12:59

They'll be fine. Stuff doesn't tend to go off at the stroke of midnight so 1 day isn't going to make that much difference.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 13/03/2022 13:02

It’s like a pack up surely. Make the day before. Scrummy the day after ❤️

KittenKong · 13/03/2022 13:02

They will be ok - I’m sure. They might be a wee bit dry but I’m sure they will be fine. I find supermarket sandwiches dry lot really fast so keep them covered until the last minute.

Clymene · 13/03/2022 13:10

They'll be fine. They just won't be as nice.

Pombearsforthewin · 13/03/2022 13:14

They will be fine. If they look or feel a bit on the dry side, wet a clean tea towel with cold water, wring it out, then place over the sandwiches. It will revive them.

MarthaFokker · 13/03/2022 13:19

I'd definitely eat them but then again, I've always been the sort who spots a little bit of mould on a crust, pulls it off and carries on making the sandwich.

Me too 😁
Only thing that ever poisoned me was out of date pate, years ago.
Maybe avoid any pate sandwiches.

Ilovechoc12 · 13/03/2022 13:22

No

But I wouldn’t risk the chance of being I’ll - I’d ditch the sandwiches than tummy ache / sickness bug ….

I wouldn’t eat them myself and I think it’s wrong to feed to others ….

But I know my sister would eat the lot as she doesn’t care 🤪🤪🤪🤪

Livpool · 13/03/2022 13:24

I'd eat and serve them without question or thought

Tatapie · 13/03/2022 13:28

Depends, ham & cheese yes , chicken & prawn no
