Going to Portugal - any tips?

I’m going to Portugal for a week at the end of the month, just me and DP, no car, and staying in Porto, Sintra and Lisbon.

Any tips from those who have visited these places, restaurants or any other good recommendations of things to do? Really excited, haven’t been before! Thank you! Sad

I was in Porto this weekend. It was my first visit and I was there for 2 days. Here are my tips:

  • Uber is very cheap there and can be a good way to get across town (or further afield) if you don't want to walk. Although the city is full of roadworks and one-way roads so no journey is a straight line!
  • I did this walking tour that included port tasting at the end. It was great. It costs €40 but is 3 hrs and the port we drank was delicious. abnb.me/E6qoF3pqoob
  • if the weather is nice grab a drink at Base which is a sort of rooftop garden with a little bar, good music and cushions scattered around the grass. Right in the centre of the city near the university. Nice and chilled.
  • I'd skip the famous bookshop personally! The queue is long and it's association with Harry Potter is invented apparently.
  • Head over to Sao Pedro da Afurada. We went on Sunday. It's a little fishing village a few miles from central Porto that has some lovely local fish restaurants that have open outdoor grills. It's all very authentic. We had amazing grilled sardines, prawns, octopus, cod and a big cold jug of sangria. Cash only.
