Best air fryer

With the cost of fuel I am considering getting an air fryer but wonder which one to get and if it's actually worth it!

DD loves a hash brown for breakfast but it seems an expensive thing to buy if that's all I'll do in it!

Do you just cook processed stuff in it? We don't tend to eat much freezer food (except hash browns 🙄) or is it more versatile?

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best air fryer page with lots of great options, as loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I had a ninja foodi 7-in-1 which was my first intro to an air fryer. I've recently bought a tefal 2-in-1XL (as there's 5 of us) and it was well worth the money.

We don't do much processed food in our house, chips are home cut potatoes.

@hashbrownsandwich that's good to know, seems an expensive bit of kit just for hashbrowns!

P.S very apt username!!

Coincidentally I did hash browns in it this morning!

We are a dual meat/veggie household so most of the time we use it for chips and other 'naughty' bits.

If you aren't worried about a large capacity I think the older versions of the tefal actifry are much more reasonable.

A lot of people seem to like the ninja dual.

It depends what one you go for. We have a Ninja Foodi multi cooker and use it for all sorts. Because it has a pressure cooker option we often cook a whole chicken in it, for example. Also use it for steaming veg and as a slow cooker. Or yes, you can use the air fryer setting for things like chips etc.

No advice but just wondering if an airfryer saves that much in fuel costs unless you have a gas oven? What do you mostly use it for (other than chips and hash browns!)?

No advice either but I have similar queries, the ninjas look good as they do more than fry, what do people cook in them? And do they save energy?

I have a Philips one. I love it and use it most days. My rule is, if you put it in your normal oven then you can put it in there( although size can be an issue).
I do pies, chips, baked pots, crumble and loads more in it. It's quicker and more efficient.
If you use your oven a lot then I can't think of a reason not to get one.

Thanks @Thereshegoesagain how big is yours? How many litres I mean.

We have had 2 Tefals - the bits like the handle and the edge break, frequently. I've got the Gourmia now which is good because we use the bake option for cooking small things, but I really miss the stirring of the Tefal - it made the best chips and roast potatoes.

I got this one after reading various reviews. I wanted one that didn't take up too much worktop space but big on the inside.

You can do a whole chicken in it.

Really happy with it much more electric efficient than the family sized electric oven. Pre heats in 5 minutes, cooks in about 2/3 of the time

I bought a cheap £40 air fryer from Asda over a year ago. Use it loads. It fits a whole chicken in which comes out so juicy and crispy , way better than the oven. Much cheaper to run too.

@EatYourFive
This is the one I bought from Amazon. I would probably have liked a bigger one. Family of 4 with teenagers.

Philips Essential Air Fryer with Rapid Air Technology, 0.8Kg, 4.1L, 1400 Watt, Black, HD9252/91

Thanks @Thereshegoesagain! I'm currently eying a Ninja Foodi which has a grill as well. I have had a Ninja blender for a few years and it's been brilliant and still going strong.

I have the Ninja Foodi Max Health Grill, it's an air fryer but it has a grill plate and temperature probe too. Stick the temperature probe into your meat and it lets you know when it's done, cooks much faster than an oven. A whole chicken is usually cooked within an hour. I also use the probe when grilling steak in it, you can set it to whatever preference you want like medium-rare or whatever and it'll cook it to the correct temperature.

We too have the Philips, just the dial one not digital. It’s 7 years old and used about 4 times a week, usual freezer foods but also fajitas, chicken breasts (marinated) sausages, homemade chips, roasted veg. Basically absolutely anything.

I bought DS1 and 2 the Tefal easy fry with grill at around £90
They both love them and use them for almost everything
There is also a larger 4.2l one called Tefal precision

Ninja foodi all the way. It's more than just air frying. You can steam crisp a whole chicken in under 1 hour.

I've got a mini air fryer - a Salter. I use it a lot, especially for jacket potatoes. Not worth putting the oven on for one.

I’ve got the 9 in 1 Foodi and I love it. Not sure if they guzzle electric or not but it can do everything all the kitchen appliances do. Food comes out lovely especially chips. The cooking bowl is huge so it’s great for batch making stuff to freeze.

The paddle thing looks great, but does that limit cooking other things like cakes in it?
