Holiday advice with an 8 month old

I'm looking at holidays for beginning of June for me, DP and DS who will be 8 months old then. I'm thinking Majorca maybe as it's a short flight. Is it easier to go all inclusive or self catering with a baby? We have always went self catering just the 2 of us but I don't know if it's cheaper and easier to go all inclusive? He will be onto solids so haven't a clue what he'll be eating!

Also can anyone recommend a resort in Majorca/Menorca suitable for a young family? Or even elsewhere as long as it's a short flight.

Also any tips for first time parents travelling with an 8 month old would be greatly appreciated. 😅

We went all inclusive with a child that age but did go to a Mark Warner resort that had lots of facilities to assist - bottle warmers, kids meal times and childcare if we wanted it. We enjoyed it - walked around DC in buggy at night ready for bed and they slept in buggy whilst we ate. Not all DC are so cooperative so if yours only sleeps in a cot it’s worth considering maybe self catering would be easier?

I took my DD when she was 7 months. We went to The Canaries so longer flight than you are looking at. We went all inclusive but we always do. We took formula powder an identified a local brand bottled water that was suitable for formula. We took plea to if pre-made formula for the journey there and back. We were doing a mix of traditional and baby-led weaning so she had a bottle first thing when awake then toast at breakfast buffet. Then she as I remember it she was mostly milk in the day, maybe some yoghurt/fruit/breadstick ect when we had lunch then we took Ella’s kitchen pouches for her tea about 5ish. She would then sleep in the pram while we had our evening meal.

We took enough nappies with us because I used cloth so took disposable inserts. If not you’ll easily be able to get nappies at a local Aldi/Lidl/supermarket/pharmacy.

DD was sitting but not crawling so we took a pop
Up tent to set up by the sun loungers lined it with a couple of towels and she was able to play in there. She wasn’t bothered by the heat.

If you take a stroller get a bag for it. It saves it being scratched in transit also you can put a couple of extra towels in the stroller basket.

That’s all I can think of for now.

We self catered on Majorca as DD wasn’t someone who would sleep in the buggy and I didn’t fancy sharing a hotel room for more than a night or two with her.

We did BLW so she just ate what was suitable from either restaurants or we cooked a bit and we managed to get some fruit purée jars and plain yoghurt plus on Majorca is a German chain called Müller, similar to Boots which sells all kind of baby products and food.

We only did AI when she was 7 and loved going to the kids club and stayed up longer.

Our dd was 9 months the first time we went abroad. We stayed in a villa, that way dd could still keep her routine and we could enjoy our evening on the terrace. Trying to get dc to sleep when you are all in one hotel room can be difficult!
We borrowed a cheap lightweight stroller from my sister (her holiday buggy!) they get bashed about a lot at the airport so we didn't want our regular one to get damaged. We took a small blow up paddling pool so dd could cool off in the shade which she really enjoyed. Cartons of formula/baby food can be pre-ordered at Boots for collection at the airport. Pack a spare outfit for you in your hand luggage- we had a very refluxy baby!
