Are physical donations actually making it to Ukraine/neighbour countries?

Just that really.
The Polish embassy requested no physical donations back in early March, and to donate money instead.
Collections near me were inundated with items and then faced the unenviable task of sorting them as the customs requirements are massive. Much ended up having to be taken to the tip as unsuitable.
So much so that one large collection that was widely advertised was then cancelled at the last minute, amid much vitriol and backlash on social media.
Now we’ve had a message from school that they have having a county-wide day for Ukraine next Friday and to bring in donations - baby supplies, medical items, clothing etc.
Is any of this stuff actually going to get to the people in need?
I can’t seem to find anything recent that is reliable.
Everything I’ve seen says send money and local charities and experts will do the right thing in each area.
I just feel desperately sad that people are being so generous but it may all end up being dumped.

I think we just have to hope so. I've been building up a small collection of things to take to a place my husband found out about. The list calls for very basic things such as nappies, men's socks and first aid equipment. There must be ways to donate money as well. All I'm aware of so far is that Marks and Spencers ask about adding a pound to every bill so that's all that I've given so far.

This is only one example but if you look up Cloybank on Facebook then they show their whole journey from collection of items, driving and delivery to a refugee centre. They said all their items were accepted.

No, I saw a very detailed post about this elsewhere written by someone who works for a humanitarian charity. Apparently the surrounding countries have been donating physical goods and because we no longer have free trade across the continent, lorries are being turned away down south, plus needs might have changed by the times the goods get to the Ukrainian people. I've also seen a lot of people sending money through Etsy shops/Air BnB bookings but that gives money directly to a small number of people, who may not even be able to withdraw it right now.

There are a few charities who have the means and resources to scale up their operations quickly so it's best to donate money to them.

Some definitely is, I know this as some friends of mine are just back from delivering several van loads to the Ukrainian boarder where they were given directly to people they had arranged to meet from charities that are working on the ground there.
