Hairdressers - charge for relaxing long hair at home ?

Please help - my son has long very thick curly/wavy hair that he has relaxed every couple of years otherwise its unmanageable .

We always have the same person - a hairdresser who has moved salons a bit .I'm sure she undercharges us - think £70 .

She uses ORS Olive Oil Built-In Protection No-Lye Hair Relaxer Normal.

Can anyone guide me as to what son should be paying ?

We do ask ,but I just feel she doesn't ask enough .

I comb and detangle it before she comes and she trims the length .

That's alot, in my opinion. I would pay £25/30 for washing, detangle, this treatment, a deep condition under a hooded dryer, and a press. This was outer london, but a few years ago. So on balance think I'd pay about the same kind of price now, as I'm not in London.

I think you're talking about texlaxing, rather than relaxing and is definitely something you can do yourself if you feel Confident enough. Those kits are made for at home use, and have the full instructions in there. For texlaxing, just leave it in for less time.

oh thanks ,that's helpful! The thing is ,an average price here in London at a basic salon would be £50 for a wash and cut .

I'm London based. I can get my hair relaxed, coloured and blow dried in a salon for £90.

I've just googled texlaxing ,you're right ,I'm sure that's what she does .

I used to pay a silly amount in the hairdressers, I can't remember exactly how much, maybe 70-100. She used one of these box kits, dark & lovely I think, and my head would aways end up with scabs chemical burns

Then one day I went in a black hair shop a few doors down and they had a gentler kids one, in two strengths (my hair isn't afro) for 2.50!

So I did it myself after that, but stopped a few years ago because I can't straight perm it AND dye it.

Thanks for that .It is quite time consuming with long thick hair and there will be additional time involved with travelling to do it at our home so I think I'm happy to pay £70 odd .
