Childhood foods

A propos of nothing and in the middle of the night I remember, or at least think I do, that for Sunday breakfast before church we had thin sausages which had an indented line down them so that you could cut them into half lengthwise. If we had sausages at any other time they were normal sausages without a line.

  1. did I imagine this, and
  2. are there foods from your childhood which you now doubt whether it not they were real. Also, tinned prawns, virol.

I remember having boiled beetroot. It stank the house out and was horrible. Except I've never heard of anyone else boiling beetroot and it being really smelly so I do wonder if I imagined it.

Never seen sausages like you describe so I vote for that being made up too 😆

I've no idea about the sausages, but I'm sure you're supposed to boil beetroot when you buy it as the unprepared root(?) It's usually pre-prepared when you buy it in the shops.

@Zonder I suspect the smell was something that had been added to thr beetroot.

@ODFOx - could they have been tinned frankfurters? They can split down the middle if you boil them.

@Instawhat we grow our own beetroot and roast it usually. I've never boiled beetroot myself so I don't think you need to.

@ElegantlyTouched I think you might be right. I just had a quick Google of boiling beetroot after reading insta's post and it seems some people boil them in vinegar. Scarred me for life!
