I was told nothing with more than 3% fat in every 100g.
So basically chicken breast, vegetables, rice etc
No spiciness. No fat.

newbiename · 10/03/2022 12:18

Yes , very low / no fat.

TrumptyDumpty · 10/03/2022 12:19

Sorry you are going through this, I had mine out last year after years of misery. Should have been done in April 2020 but, yeah covid! I ate nothing over 5% fat, so per 100g of something should only have 5g of fat. I lost a few stone as you can imagine. I ate well I just needed to make a few changes like chicken sausages, very low fat mayo, skimmed milk, pretzels, soup, 5% mince in meals including chilli, spag bol, meatballs

Just to add I did eat upto 5% fat but I tried to keep under 3% if I could

mynameiscalypso · 10/03/2022 12:21

Mine wasn't infected but prior to having it out, I lived on toast with marmite (no butter) and pasta with tomato sauce (onion is cooked in water, tinned tomatoes, some seasoning, simmered for a little bit).

xhyrug · 10/03/2022 12:31

Thank you! So basically any lean meat, chicken sausages, rice.

Can I have a little piece of bread, or pasta say?

What about reduced fat cheese?

I think bread or pasta are fine as low fat. Just depends if your also sensitive to gluten. I would imagine rice and potatoes better for general digestion

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 10/03/2022 12:37

You can get fat free cottage cheese, which is strangely nice with pasta and a very small sprinkle of a low fat cheese.

Keep portions small and try to eat regularly.

Something like chicken breast and white rice with mixed peppers and soy sauce & ginger is a good meal for me. Watch the fat content in sausages.

Yy - I do use 'free from' pasta, usually about 70p-80p a bag from Asda (the cheapest I've found). It's definitely easier for me to digest, and tastes fine.
TrumptyDumpty · 10/03/2022 12:41

Pasta and bread are fine. I actually had a chicken kebab made from wholemeal pitta, cooked chicken breast, salad and mayo. Lots of places do low fat chips too. I also had marmite, crumpets, bagels, very low fat Philadelphia, lean ham, low fat yoghurts etc

BeyondMyWits · 10/03/2022 12:43

My mum ate potatoes a lot. Steamed fish, steamed chicken. Bland and fat free. She loved the fact she lost weight as it was the complete opposite of what she used to eat. She also loved the lack of pain. She did not love the blandness. (Tomatoes, herbs and spices also caused her issues)

Blueberryflavour · 10/03/2022 12:43

Just saying restricting your fat intake may help you but be prepared it may not, I had loads of gallbladder stones and several severe episodes of pain before I had my gallbladder removed and unfortunately for me it didn’t make a difference what I ate.

SparkleSpangle · 10/03/2022 12:46

@Blueberryflavour same. I took to starving myself and sipping water. Still had attacks almost daily.

BeyondPurpleTulips · 10/03/2022 12:46

Sorry to be a contradictory nightmare, but I find the opposite - low carb high fat - best for mine. This is backed by some professional opinions, not just me

Restrictive eating can cause gallbladder problems. Nine started after doing a VLCD and I was told by the GP gallbladder problems are very common in people who've had weight loss surgery and do VLCD.

I've managed to manage mine so far by eating healthier, not too much but also eating regularly. I also stopped drinking alcohol, obviously.

xhyrug · 10/03/2022 12:52

Thanks everyone, I'm just constantly sore where my gallbladder is,it seems some people find different things help! I can't wait to have it out, but obviously with covid gonna be massive wait lists!

Make some vegetable soup. Simmer veg in stock for half an hour. Then eat as a thin soup with pieces in or blend half for a thicker soup with pieces in or blend all for a thick soup. Onions, carrots and green beans in vegetable stock makes a nice soup. Eat with fresh bread to dip (no butter).

HopefulProcrastinator · 10/03/2022 12:56

In my experience...

  • as low fat as possible
  • avoid citrus fruits
  • avoid spices
  • avoid things that are too cold

But you'll learn your triggers pretty quickly to be fair.

To be perfectly honest, once you're past a certain point almost everything will be a trigger. I ended up surviving on weetabix and tepid water in the last few weeks before my operation - everything else literally triggered agony. Hope you get sorted soon Flowers

Shuffleuplove · 10/03/2022 12:58

Mine ended up rupturing and I had it took out as an emergency. It was horrible and I was like a new woman afterwards.

xhyrug · 10/03/2022 13:21

Thank you all so much! Sounds like it's down to the individual as to what affects it! I had binary colic about 5 months ago and now it's infected, spice defo unsettles it, so I already keep well away from spice.

Prawn stir fry with brown rice instead of noodles was my go to

tintodeverano2 · 10/03/2022 13:32

Before I had mine out it was only plain rice or potatoes that I could tolerate. Maybe some chicken but that's about it!

cushioncovers · 10/03/2022 13:36

My experience was this. Plain chicken no skin. White fish steamed. Plain veg. No butter, no oil, no spices. No eggs, no dairy at all other than skimmed milk and Fat free yogurts. I only ate bland low fat foods. I used fat free dressings and sauces. It was hard and I lost weight but the pain if I ate rich food just wasn't worth it. Good luck op.

cushioncovers · 10/03/2022 13:37

Meant to add avoid citrus fruits
