Everything just came out my tumble dryer covered in blue ink. Every single item in it and it was a huge load. I've checked every pocket, inside everything sleeves legs I cannot find the pen?! So firstly where the ducking fuck do I find that?

Secondly how do I get it out of so many clothes?

Thirdly how do I get the ink off my dryer, the filter everything else?

Arghhh!!! Why can't I find the pen i can't dry anything else until I do. I've just washed all our bedding in the washing machine and that's all come out clean so it has to be the dryer. Gah!!

Have you checked in the seal of the washing machine door? I suspect it is in there but the ink is now empty having gone through a wash hence why the bedding isn’t stained.

sqirrelfriends · 10/03/2022 11:54

Do you think it was biro OP? I've never run in through the wash but I did have one explode in my trouser pocket and get onto my coat and backpack. I couldn't get it all out but what helped the most was isopropyl alcohol. I have 90% for cleaning camera equipment and it really helped thin the ink out so it could be blotted off. I think hand sanitiser or a lower concentration or alcohol could also work.

Definitely not in washing machine. Not in drum of tumble or filter but the whole filter is stained blue. Bloody went and spent over £100 in Next last week on the next size up clothes for toddler and of course almost all of them were in this wash. I just want to find it so I can atleast dry everyone's bedding I've washed but it's nowhere to be found Sad

You have my sympathy op, I had this happen in a white wash when my son left a biro in his clothes. 😬

PunkPanther · 10/03/2022 12:02

Could you put an old towel in the dryer to see if it's still coming out inky?

Have you checked the lint trap for the pen?

Yebbie · 10/03/2022 12:02

Omg I found it it's a fucking crayon. How has a crayon stained like ink? It's on absolutely everything. Must of been in toddlers pocket. Grrrrrrr

Any chance it may wash out ?

PragmaticWench · 10/03/2022 12:04

Did the crayon melt with the heat of the dryer?

worriedatthistime · 10/03/2022 12:04

Would a crayon not melt in a tumble dryer ? My ds often leave gumshields in pockets and i have had them melt and stuck to clothes

Yebbie · 10/03/2022 12:06

It's a melted stump of crayon I've found. But how has it gotten on every little thing Sad

Sounds like the crayon melted in the heat of the dryer. If my DC spill paint or ink on their clothes that I can't get out with stain remover I give them the choice of going without or wearing it with the stain on. Usually they don't care about the stains so the clothes are fine for wearing to nursery when they just get mucky again!

Geezabreak82 · 10/03/2022 12:19

If it is crayon it's probably easier to get out than biro ink. Try rubbing some dishwashing soap into the stains then rinsing it and rewashing. Or if that doesn't work WD40 is good at dissolving crayon marks. Apply a small amount, leave it to do its work for a bit, then apply dishwashing soap to remove both the WD40 and the crayon residue. Good luck!

gunnersgold · 10/03/2022 12:20

Crayon should wash out hit get fairly liquid and rub the marks to see if it loosens them . You need an emulsifier as they are oil based I would imagine .

banivani · 10/03/2022 12:24

If it's crayon I wonder if dry-cleaning could melt it out. It's basically soaking in solvent, great way to get candle wax out for example. If you have a cleaner nearby who lets you chuck stuff in by weight, no pressing or sorting, it needn't be too dear. However, baby clothes are perhaps not something you want near dry-cleaning, even if you wash them after. And I'm not at all sure about the colour, if it shifts it.

Make sure the wd40 is completely out. Once my DH chucked a rag with wd40 on it in my towels washing and the dryer stunk of it for ages
ScottChegg · 10/03/2022 12:54

I've removed crayon before with a warm, dry iron and kitchen roll/brown paper.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 10/03/2022 13:28

Boil them in small batches in a large pan?
The melting point of wax is lower than water boiling point. So the wax should come out and float, you can skim it off the top of the water.
It may not bring all the colour with it though but worth a go with a small batch.
It might also be possible to bleach some of the man made fibres without damaging them, but you would have to get rid of the wax first.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 10/03/2022 13:30

Or even riskier..you could put them in the washing machine on a really high temp.
But you could do large items that way..you would probably have to do at least 1 empty high temp wash afterwards to clean the machine.. possibly with a couple of dishwasher tablets in it..

ChinUpChestOut · 10/03/2022 13:33

Before you start getting out the rolls of brown paper and ironing for the next 6 days, is there any chance the ruined clothing, possibly permanently stained washer/dryer etc would be covered under your home contents insurance policy? Would have to check your excess, but it might be worth a call to the company.

LottyD32 · 10/03/2022 13:39

If you can't get it out can you dye the clothes?

HitsAndMrs · 10/03/2022 13:43

It's not a security tag left on one of the new items is it?
They have ink in them.

ASaucerfulOfSecrets · 10/03/2022 13:53

WD40 is incredibly flammable so make sure there is no trace if using it and tumble drying.

I once watched DH WD40 a sticking shredder and then howled with laughter when it went bang and burst into flames. Knob head.
