Hygenist - how much does yours cost?

Up until mid-2021 ours cost £45 but I rang today to book in and it’s shot up to £75. How can they justify such a cost when I’ve always been in and out in under 15 mins? I’m sick of Covid being blamed for costs sky-rocketing (our dentist has been open throughout the pandemic).

I need my teeth done as despite using an electric toothbrush, brushing x2 daily etc my teeth get a lot of plaque build/up and stained/yellow (don’t smoke either), so they are starting to look awful.

£69 here, 20 minute appointment

Pyri · 10/03/2022 10:40

Mine is £80 but it’s about 30 minutes and she’s brilliant, so much more gentle than some of the absolute psychos I’ve had before who leave your mouth full of blood

I go private for deep cleans as I have advanced gum disease and loose teeth. It's £101 an hour.

Mine is 65 quid for a 30 min session. I'm sure it will rise soon. Everything is going up, not just because of Covid but all the mess that's been happening around the world lately! We got letters from Nursery, council tax, energy company all telling us that prices are going up...Even our bloody window cleaner put his prices up LOL. If you're not doing this already, use inter-dental brushes, invest in a waterflosser, home made paste with baking soda and coconut oil, let it sit on your teeth for a few mins then rinse. Worked wonders for me and I only go to hygienist a couple times a year now.

onemouseplace · 10/03/2022 10:44

Mine is about £95 as they increased the appointment time to allow for the room to be aired between patients during covid. So that is for a 45 min appointment, but 30 mins of actual hygienist.

I'm hoping they will revert to normal soon.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 10/03/2022 10:50

£120 but that's for 45 minutes and they use some fancy air-blasty thing (so no scraping, or very little).

Well worth it, but I tend to only go every year (should really do it every six months)

emmathedilemma · 10/03/2022 10:51

£60 (I asked yesterday!) but the one i used to go to was £80 3 years ago so I dread to think what it is now.

Heatherjayne1972 · 10/03/2022 11:19

We charge £99 in one place for 30 mins and £65 in the other practice for 30 mins

The charges are quite variable. Depends on overheads heating lighting water materials equipment my wages insurances ppe and other things we legally have to have etc. most of those costs are things my bosses have zero control over

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/03/2022 11:21

£50 for half an hour. I love mine, she’s brilliant.

decemberrainydays · 10/03/2022 11:21

£58 for about 40 mins which now sounds very cheap!

musicalfrog · 10/03/2022 11:24

£59 per session but they are in high demand so you have to book months in advance.

Will be encouraging my kids to consider this line of work!

Theremustbemoretome · 10/03/2022 11:30

Thanks everyone. I feel quite ripped off then that I’ve always been on and out in under 15 mins. Doesn’t seem to use any fancy equipment either - just scrapes and then the usual cleaning machine that a dentist would use.

I’ve just seen some really poor reviews on Google for this dentist so I might think about going elsewhere.

In the country I am from the dentist scrapes and cleans your teeth at a standard check-up so I never got this build-up of plaque and staining as I went every 6 months.

I get two free sessions a year in my dental plan thing which is a whopping £17 a month. That includes 2 check ups and a discount on treatment too.
