Anyone fancy a toddler and baby support thread?

I've got a just turned 2 year old and 3 week old. Dh went back to work after paternity leave Monday and it's been a tough week. I had a c section so not being able to lift the toddler is making things a lot harder, especially since he keeps dragging chairs across the kitchen to get into the food cupboards. Normally I'd just lift him off the chair but obviously can't do that so I have to stand there trying to convince him to get down himself. Very frustrating!

I also have a 10 and 8 year old so I've done the whole toddler and baby thing before but totally forgot how full on it was!

I would love to join your thread.

I have a 4 month old and a 28 month old. I have cried a lot today, some days are so hard and I think the older ones act up when they are not the centre of attention.

That sounds very cheeky about your toddler trying to get in the food cupboards! I swear they would just eat rubbish until they make themselves sick.

I hope you have a speedy c section recovery and things settle down Daffodil

Me too, I'm exhausted and just need several nights decent sleep and some time out. 3.5 year old and 1.5 year old. I lose my patience a lot but I'm just SO TIRED! Youngest barely sleeps more than 2 hours at a stretch, constantly teething!

I'm a bit premature but I'll join in anticipation. I'm having a c-section on Friday with my second. My DS turns 21 months the same day.

Ooh me too please!

I have a 5 month old and an almost 3 year old. I really thought I would have got to grips with it by now but it just feels like a constant slog.

DH works crazy long hours so I’m basically by myself Monday-Friday, the baby is a terrible sleeper and we seem to have constant illnesses.

Me too, I have an 8 year old, a 2 year old and a 6 week old! It’s so full on, the 8 year old has just had chickenpox, the 2 year old currently has chickenpox and won’t leave my side and the baby is having some sort of growth spurt and is back to cluster feeding!

ilovemyboys3 · 09/03/2022 20:44

Oooh me too. I have a 6 year old and a 14 month old and I am due in 8 weeks. I'm terrified of having a 16 month old and a newborn. Please tell me all will be okay 😂

Me too please! I have a 2.5 year old and a 5 month old. Really struggling with toddler not listening and finding myself losing it too often! Also on my own Monday-Friday, same as pp. It's tough so thanks for starting this thread. Xx

Welcome everyone. Honestly it's good to know I'm not alone in the madness. I'm absolutely exhausted so will reply to everyone tomorrow but wishing you all a decent night sleep. Currently have 3/4 kids waking up at night as the 8 year old has been having nightmares.

Ouch! I couldn’t imagine dealing with all 4 of them waking up.

We’re on wake up number 3 of the night so far. Think it’s going to be a long one! We all have covid at the moment so sleep is extra disturbed this week.

I hope to have a baby and a toddler this year!

Me too! I have a 2 week old and a toddler turning 2 next week! Its definitely been a huge change to adjust to. My toddler has been finding it difficult so trying to give lots of attention and cuddled.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 10/03/2022 08:03

I have a just turned 2yr old and a 4wk old. I'm recovering from a c-section and trying not to put my recovery back too much. It's impossible not to have to lift my toddler now my DP is back at work. It's so frustrating that I've ended up re-injuring myself several times because I can't just leave my DD stranded.

Yesterday I had to help lift a bath and the world's heaviest shower screen so I'm in a bit of pain today. My wound hasn't healed yet either so I'm hoping it's not going to open back up. Getting a bit fed up of my DP seemingly forgetting I'm not supposed to be doing anything strenuous.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 10/03/2022 08:06

Is anyone having issues with their toddler crying and getting hysterical when the baby cries? It's driving me mad.
It's worst in the car - the baby only has to make a tiny sound and my toddler whines or cries for the entire journey. Sometimes it's uncontrollable sobbing for long periods.

AchillesHeelys · 10/03/2022 20:02

@PissedOffNeighbour22 my toddler doesn’t cry when the baby does but she has recently started shouting when he cries, which obviously makes him cry more!
I think it’s probably an attention thing isn’t it, like they feel like they need to compete.
I’m trying to get some 1 on 1 time with my two year old as much as I can so she doesn’t feel put out. It’s easier now the baby is a bit older as I can put him down in his cot or pram for naps and use that time to focus on DD.

AchillesHeelys · 10/03/2022 20:05

I’ve managed to get them both to bed so putting my feet up (hopefully!) for a couple of hours and trying to mentally prepare myself for a few more days stuck in the house with both children feeling poorly.
I feel like my poor DD gets stuck in front of CBeebies far too much at the moment. Trying to stay positive that spring will be easier with fewer bugs and more chance to get out in the fresh air.
