Rectal bleeding......

Justwingingit2005 · 09/03/2022 10:51

So twice since Christmas had 2 occasions of a tiny bit of blood when wiping.
Happened for second time today so I (oh the shame) had a look..... and can see where its from.
Bottom also feels really sore and burning.
My GP does an online thing so I've done that just now to see what action it needs but has anyone else had this?

Of course, always best to get medical opinion. Is the bleeding bright red? Bright red can indicate a cut, which may heal over time.

That doesn’t sound like proper rectal bleeding ie flowing fresh blood. Sounds more like just a tear from doing the loo. Best to get checked anyway i guess

You could call your pharmacist as it’s probably quicker; bright red blood in small amounts is very common when wiping. OTC medication can help.

That’s good news. If you can see it that means it isn’t coming from higher up in the colon. It’s just a pile or fissure around the anus. Use a bit of Anusol, it’ll be fine in a few days.

Also - off topic but why do you feel ashamed about looking at your own body? Confused

The blood is bright red, like blood from a cut.

I thought I would log a form with the Dr just to be sure

I would aim to treat OTC or speak to a pharmacist first as sounds topical rather than something internal.

Definitely inform the gp.
But in the meantime sudafed is great for this type of thing.

There is like zero need to inform a GP about blood when wiping - don't you get it when you have a dry nostril?

Why didn't you call a pharmacy or look at the NHS online site which has very good pointers on when to see a GP??

Lovemusic33 · 09/03/2022 11:42

Sounds like a small cut, have you been constipated? This happens to me a lot, I have found upping my fibre intake has helped. If I was to go to the gp every time I saw blood I would be there every week 😬. It’s blood in your poo you need to worry about.

There is if it is persistent, does not stop, or is dark. These can indicate very serious problems which need urgent attention.

A small amount of bright blood occasionally is not usually an issue.

ABitOfAShitShow · 09/03/2022 11:48

Sounds like a fissure to me (unfortunately, I’m well-versed in this subject).

A doctor won’t do anything for a fissure unless it becomes chronic and you’re in a lot of pain - in which case they can prescribe ointment (NG or diltiazem) to help relax the muscle so it can heal.

If it’s bothering you, at this stage you could numb it a bit with Anusol. The key things is keeping your stools soft so it can heal.

KoalafiedAwesome · 09/03/2022 11:49

@Lockheart And the OP has clarified that it's not persistent and that it's a small amount, when wiping, that has only happened twice alongside all the other symptoms of having a cut on your arse.

The NHS website gives clear pointers of when you need to see a GP, and a pharmacist would offer something OTC...
