Maternity leave before the baby...

...it's a bit bloody boring. And this is only my 3rd day.
Unfortunately all my friends work in the week. I am working through every room doing the drawers and cupboards. I have scrubbed the house within an inch of it's life. Doesn't help I'm awake at 4 every day (since about 30 seconds pregnant) so they day seems long by the time I drop DD off at school!

Cinema? Swimming? Box sets?

ReeseWitherfork · 09/03/2022 07:55

Tbh it doesn't get much more interesting after the baby is born IME 😂 embrace napping and Netflix!

I started adoption leave seven days before our daughter moved in, I would now do anything to have the luxury of boredom.

Drink a drink while its still hot and really enjoy it.

We don't have a local cinema. I wouldn't get there and back again before DD finished school. I don't have a maternity costumes and feels a bit late to get one. Doesn't help that I don't really watch TV or films and I can't eat or drink apart from milk and toast. I know I'll end up popping to the shops constantly wasting so much money.

Box sets, loads of snacks, on the sofa 👌🏻👌🏻 little walks, wandering around the shops. I throughly enjoyed it as I knew once baby was born being alone is a thing of the past for a while!

GrendelsGrandma · 09/03/2022 08:07

I didn't like that bit either. I did a lot of jigsaws.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 09/03/2022 08:09

I walked loads, cooked for the freezer, baked, read, took long baths... I really enjoyed it.

Maternity costume will likely still work ok post-partum if it takes a few months for you to fit back into your per-maternity wear.
Or if you don’t mind showing your tummy, a bikini with adjustable sides will definitely still fit post-partum. You might even have one around already that fits ok still.

What do you enjoy doing OP?

Newestname002 · 09/03/2022 08:16

What about reading, @ElliotGoss?

Either digital books or proper paper ones you can snuggle on the sofa with? 🌹

justsippingsometea · 09/03/2022 08:26

I've been off since Xmas, baby due next week! Lots of walking, sorting out the house, seeing family, reading, cooking for the freezer, yoga! The house has never been more organised. Such a relief to get on top of things!!

Although thinking back it took me 2 weeks to get in to the swing of it. The first 2 weeks I felt bored and a bit aimless!

  • Netflix (get a list of boxsets you want to power through).
  • Learn a new skill (I've ordered a beginners guide to hand sewing, a pattern, stuffing etc to make a bear, and I'm using old clothes of my sons to do it)
  • Reading or audiobooks (I highly recommend audible).
  • Walking if you can manage it.
  • Soak in the bath
  • Get hair done
  • What about a paint by numbers? you can buy them on ebay or amazon (make sure they're shipping from UK otherwise may not be here before the baby is born haha!)
gogohm · 09/03/2022 08:37

How long do you have? Make a list of jobs that won't be easy with the baby and tick one a day. I'm home by 3 ( kids grown) and I'm bored so I do get it (dp gets fancy meals most nights!)

DownWhichOfLate · 09/03/2022 09:03

Do you have lots of digital photos? One task I’ve been meaning to do but never got around to is to upload them to albums and get them printed.
