Angry robin(s)?

Anyone else got an angry robin living in their garden?
We have one that lives in our garden who is very cross at the 'other' robins invading his space. By other robins, I mean his reflection in our double glazing. He picks fights with himself all day, flying the window and pecking at it with his beak.
Is this normal robin behaviour? I don't think I've ever known this in any of the others houses I've lived in over the years.
He's no bother, I just wonder if he's ok!

The issue is the window, you need to get rid of the reflection. You can buy stickers for this.

Aggression and protecting territory is normal for robins.

Robins are very territorial and Di fight off other robins. Yours dies sound a bit confused though 😁

Robins are highly territorial, so will attack other robins in their area. It's coming into breeding season so it's possibly why it's so keen on getting rid of what it thinks is a rival! I know they sell stickers to stop birds flying into windows so they can 'see' them as a surface. That might help so it realizes that it's not another robin.

I had a Robin last year came and shouted at the cat. Really confident and very annoying as would sit on the doorstep and chirp getting closer and closer to the cat. I hope he stays away this year

We went on holiday to a hotel in the countryside. Parked the car facing trees/bushes and as eldest DS got out a robin swooped at him. The robin then repeatedly flew at him as we walked away towards the hotel, ignoring the rest of us. I've no idea why it picked on him - the biggest of us all (and he wasn't wearing red). Obviously protecting its territory

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/03/2022 08:51

He's OK, just the sociopathic little red murderer he is meant to be.

However, I would try and ensure there isn't a full 'sheet' of window reflecting the sky or making it look as though there's a flight path through the house if possible, as birds can and do die from flying into them. Having blinds/curtains partially lowered/pulled can help with this.

The Rob(b) in(g) bastard!!

Phlewf · 09/03/2022 08:56

Everyone’s being very polite. Robins are furious and merciless when it comes to threats (real or imagined). They attack first ask questions never. It’s only the fact that they are tiny and light that keeps anyone safe.
Their Christmas card popularity only improves their confidence.

Yeah Robins are little bastards!

This has really made me chuckleGrin
Since my post this morning I've noticed another robin (or possibly the same one?) at the front of my house pecking at their reflection of my car! I had no idea they were such territorial, ragey little creatures!

I think I'll look at something to help him see past the reflection Smile

He's a dick 🤣

CirreltheSquirrel · 09/03/2022 13:25

Yup, our robin is being an aggressive little git at the moment. It's what they do.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/03/2022 13:26

All robins are angry, feisty and brave little beggars.
Ours keeps me in close check when I’m gardening. Love him.

I had to put covers on the door mirrors on my car last year as a chaffinch was either fighting or courting his reflection in the mirrors leaving both the mirror and and car door covered in shit and spit.
