Hi.
My 13 year old is recovering from joint surgery 2 weeks ago.
She needs to use a wheelchair while recovering.
It's so hard for her and as her main carer both physically and emotionally (road traffic accident), I'm exhausted.
I slept today and now can't sleep.

why is it hard, explain please. is there a cognitive issue along with the joint? which joints knee hip etc.
there is equipment for most types of joint injuries that should allow her independence and you to relax.

She's upset about missing 9 days of school and feels vulnerable in a wheelchair.
Students are bumping into her

Ask her school to let her leave lessons a few mins early so she doesn’t get jostled or arrive a couple of mins late to class. Some schools would let her take a friend to help push her/hold her books. Make sure you take time for yourself each day even just to listen to a podcast to help refresh yourself. Giving your mind something else to think about will help get you in a better place to sleep. That will help you care for her and listen to her when she’s home. Help her find an activity or even a new tv show or book series that she can get into while she recovers. Know that this is not easy but it also isn’t permanent and she will grow from this. Her compassion for others, her sense of what’s important, her patience and strength will all increase. As will yours. It’s exhausting right now but your love for her while things are really hard won’t be forgotten.

see if you can get a recommendation for a tutor to go over the material she missed.
is the w/c she is using the best size and fit for the school stay in touch with the occupational or physio therapist. do you have other equipment to make life at home as easy as possible?
how long is the expected to be in a w/c?
