My 7 month old recently started this new thing this past while of going into wee dazes and ignoring everyone and everything around him for about 15 seconds or more. Anyone else experienced this??Confused

Does he react if you touch him during one of these? If yes, that's pretty reassuring. If not, needs assessing promptly as may be fits.

No he doesn't

You need to get him checked out. It could be that he is having "abscences" which is a form of epilepsy. Normally quite easy to manage so don't panic.

Could it be petit mal? He needs to see a Dr.

rolypolydoly · 07/03/2022 20:47

Try not to worry or panic. But do try and get an appointment with your GP as soon as you can x

nocoolnamesleft · 07/03/2022 20:48

He really needs checking out then. I would expect your GP to contact paediatrics for an urgent outpatient appointment.

Doggydreaming · 07/03/2022 20:49

I just came on here to suggest this could be an absence seizure. I think you need to see your GP.

SuperSocks · 07/03/2022 20:52

It sounds very much like absence seizures. Please see your GP or paediatrician.

Findingneeemo · 07/03/2022 20:55

From experience you really need to film him the next few times it happens. If you just describe it you may be fobbed off. Also if it’s epilepsy the video may give the consultant more information.

mumtobee22 · 07/03/2022 21:00

Thanks everyone. Hv out tomrrow so will mention it to her.

This

Don’t panic if it’s epilepsy it can usually be well controlled

Trinxsy · 07/03/2022 21:13

DS had this around the same age!! Absence seizures were suggested but they went away after a week. He did have a very nasty case of tonsillitis that was found instead

AppleDoghnuts · 07/03/2022 21:17

Please don't rely on a crappy HV get a GP appointment.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/03/2022 21:31

You really do need a GP appointment. The HV won't be able to arrange a paeds referral.

GalactatingGoddess · 07/03/2022 21:37

This sounds a bit like absence seizures, I used to work with someone whose child had these. GP appointment needed to follow up

MainePyarKiya · 07/03/2022 21:43

Hi
My son started doing something similar at about 9 months, he has now been diagnosed with epilepsy. Please do not rely on hv, they will not know, you should make a GP appointment for a paediatric referral, they will undertake checks and monitor. Definitely try and film them if you can.

My son is now on medication and the seizures are controlled.

All the best.

Onceuponatimethen · 07/03/2022 21:46

Also came to say absence seizures. My dbro’s dd has these.

FairWindClearSailing · 08/03/2022 10:26

Get it checked out but also please try not worry. My son did this at exactly the same age, it lasted 2 or so months and went away again.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/03/2022 11:54

Yes DS1 had this in 2020 I think, absence seizures.
Basically it turned out he was chronically sleep deprived because his body wouldn’t go into deep sleep, so he’d sleep 11hours but none of it would be quality sleep. Pediatrician put him on melatonin and sent for MRI and EEG.
The first night he took the melatonin it was like waking up to a different child. The absence seizures stopped after about a week.

Please don’t worry but get him seen by a doctor immediately.

mumtobee22 · 08/03/2022 15:22

I rang gp today and there going to check him over. Thanks all hoping it's something and nothing!

Try to video the episodes if you can and write how often they happen and how long they last. - time it- don't guess, they offer feel longer than they actually are.
