will i regret planting a deciduous tree over my driveway

Garden is higher than driveway - I'd love to plant a laburnum or something similar to drape down.

Am I going to just hate myself in autumn every year as I clean leaves off the car?

Not just leaves, bird shit too!

oh yeah, bird shit....I was envisaging something like this...

I have deciduous trees all along my driveway including where I park the car. Bird shit isn't a problem, and I've never found it all that taxing to clear a few leaves off the car.

I love laburnum but I don't think I'd plant one if I had young children or pets because of the seeds being poisonous.

Yep. Leaves, sap. Don’t

I used to have a gorgeous, massive 30 year old flowering cherry arching all over my driveway.
Until it rooted into the main sewer from the house and broke the sewer pipe. It was £3000 to dig up the drive, replace the sewer and relay the drive. That was 15 years ago, I expect it would cost even more now.
Think carefully about where your tree’s roots will be exploring, OP!

We have Yew and Birch overhanging our drive. The Birch isn't too bad, just little diamond shaped leaves which mostly blow away on their own.

But the Yew! The evergreen Yew is the PITA. The berries! Aaarrgghh. They're endless and no matter how many i sweep up they still get squashed and walked into the house.

SO - and breathe - just don't get anything with berries.

All fine and dandy you til it's wet on the floor and the leaves are there and boom your in A&E with a bleeding head and a broken hip. Put some solar power lights or something in your garden instead

We’ve a massive hornbeam across the road that does make things a bit slippy after rain with the leaves…

Rowans have relatively few leaves, and are very pretty. But attract birds and have berries. Yes, i planted one in my driveway though.

The neighbours have a laburnum.

It was taller than the 6ft fence when we move in 6 years ago. It’s still basically one thin twig with a few, even thinner, twigs coming off it. It might take a while for the effect you are after.

I'm in Maine so I guess the idea of a driveway that doesn't have trees all along it is weird to me. And I'm much more worried about slipping on the ice and snow we get than on slippery leaves.

The biggest problem for us with trees along the driveway is that it takes out the power lines if one comes down, which happens every few years. But I think in the UK your power lines are underground?

I have a sycamore. I love watching the seasons change through it and get over sweeping up some leaves. Every house on my street has a tree outside, I enjoy that
