Exploring Lanzarote

DH and I off to Costa Teguise on Saturday for a week, just the 2 of us in an adults only resort.

The weather looks crap so my week of sunbathing with a book is probably out the window. Can anyone recommend things to see / do / eat in the area in bad weather?

Rent a car and drive yourselves around, the scenery is very cool

Many vineyards offer tours and wine tastings

Visit the various Cesar Manrique buildings (especially his house/museum and the Mirador del Rio)

Visit the volcanic caves

There are some great restaurants on the island too

There's lots to do in Lanzarote
Ideas here

The weather might surprise you as the rain showers are often short and sharp and when the sun comes out it's often quite warm
Also the bus service on the island is excellent so you could go to other resorts for the day( Playa Blanco is often Warner than other resorts)
Enjoy!

I'm just back from Lanzarote, and the weather was changeable. No rain, but very windy some days so didn't always feel that warm. We did have some hot and sunny weather as well though.

Definitely hire a car if you can - it's very cheap and easy to drive around.

Go to Timanfaya National Park. You're on a bus, so it doesn't matter if the weather isn't great.

Playa Blanca was the warmest place we went to - hot and sunny there even if other places were windy.

We went to Lanzarote mainly for the surfing, which is excellent, and it doesn't matter if the weather is bad, so not sure if that would be an option!

@minipie we're actually staying in a Cesar Manrique designed hotel so that's a good shout!

@Lanza5 DH is desperate to surf and I enjoy mucking about in a kayak so that's good.

We're also all inclusive so the option to drink and eat and pay cards all day also exists Grin

Famara is the best place for surfing. You can also try out kite surfing there. Not sure about kayaking though...

Have a daytrip to Play Blanca there are also some great rock formations / splashy waves on the south west coast.

Definitely Timanfaya. Get there early to avoid long queues.
In fact you could do Timanfaya followed by late lunch at Playa Blanca.

Puerto Calero very pretty and you can get a water taxi over to Puerto del Carmen.

Agree that the weather might not be as bad as you fear and is also better in the south, so Playa Blanca is worth driving down to. You could even get on the ferry over to Fuerteventura for a change of scene.

Drive up to Teguise town, I remember the road being all twisty turny through nice scenery. They have a big Sunday market if that's your thing.

If you go to the volcano, you might as well go on to El Golfo while you're there. Traditional fishing village, nice restaurants, black beach and a green lake at the bottom of some cliffs. Wear good shoes because you have to walk a bit up an uneven footpath.

There's a couple of nice restaurants in Orzola near to the place where you can get the boat to the little island off the north coast La Graciosa.

So you could easily fill three days by having a drive north, west and south from CT. We've used Autoreisen a couple of times in the Canaries with none of the full to empty and 20 euro a day zero excess nonsense that you get from Goldcar and the like.

@BarbaraofSeville amazing, thank you. I love a market!
