Ask school who the exam boards are for each subject.
You can buy revision guides, test papers & marking schemes for each.
If you look on the exam board websites there are the grade mark boundaries year by year.
Ask teachers which set texts DS will be studying ie English, Latin, Greek.
For MFLs the teachers should be able to give you resources for the speaking / listening sections.
Some subjects will have little difference across different exam boards ie maths, physics but others will vary ie English Lit (set texts).
What is it you want the tutor to do? General support / learning or, is DS struggling with some subjects? Is English his second language?
Try to find a tutor that can understand the exam board’s curriculum and question style. Some agencies will match DC with a tutor. This matters more with more interpretive / essay based questions.
You could divide the subjects into 3 categories.
- Wrote learning: you & DC do as much of this as possible.
Languages - vocab & verbs / endings etc…
Chem, physics, bio, History, Geography - facts, facts, facts. Chem formulas, stages of experiments, label diagrams, dates, who was who, did what etc…
- The why’s - this is where a tutor can help.
- Style and understanding the question. Again this is where the tutor add’s value.
How to construct a longer question or essay. Working in those facts.
How to understand the question/ mark guide.
Language speaking practice.
