I curerntly weekly shop but wondering if montly is better. We have plenty of storage and freezer space.
Im finding weekly is taking up so much time. I shop lidl for the bulk but other stores for the things we cant get in lidl.

If I shopped monthly I'd be forever doing top-up shops for milk/bread/fruit/veg/other bits I fancied- which would kind of make monthly pointless.
Possibly a monthly freezer shop but tbh I'd still prefer to do it weekly.

We do Costco monthly and Tesco weekly for fruit, veg, milk.

Weekly online shop with Tesco’s, Monthly wouldn’t work for me as we mainly eat fresh food rather than frozen

BritishDesiGirl · 06/03/2022 12:55

Every two weeks for me, it means everything gets eaten and l always have staple foods in stock anyway.

I used to do my majority of food shopping in one shop monthly when I was on a very tight budget. It made me feel more at ease knowing we had everything we needed at the start of the month. I used to order one huge shop and as we had two freezers (one was a big chest freezer), I also used prep/cook the months worth of evening meals in one go then too. I used to include easy things like pizza and wedges for one meal to stop us ordering take away which was a waste of money. It worked really well as I would then put £10/15 cash for each week of the month in a jar in the kitchen, and use that for our weekly shop of fresh fruit veg milk/yogurt and bread etc. I don't do this now as money is not as tight. But I still order the months worth of toilet roll, kitchen roll, cleaning stuff, squash and tins of beans etc at the start of the month as it's just easier to do it all in one go to be honest.

I find it easier to shop every 2-3 days, less wastage

Readyforspring · 06/03/2022 13:02

Thank you
When i say freezer space. Its like to buy meat and freeze. We only have 'freezer food' ie kiev chips once a week when tight for time.
And monthly staples.

Weekly fruit veg fridge stuff.

I live opposite tesco so no prob going 2x week.

I currently
Lidl ans tesco for weekly
Then find myseof topping up 2x a week on fruit in tesco.

The cheapest way is to get the best price for what you buy and avoid waste.

We don't have a set frequency, list or shop.

For non perishables that are always used, these are generally bought when on offer or in bulk from wherever they are cheap, Costco, Aldi, Home Bargains etc. Plus bulk packs of meat to be split up and frozen.

Then for top ups like bread, milk, fruit, salad etc probably a quick shop a couple of times a week wherever is convenient. Can also add anything that's on a good offer, is running out, or needs for the meal plan over the next couple of days.

You're not going to be able to just shop monthly unless you eat very little fresh food as it just won't last. Could you get deliveries or do click and collect to reduce time taken?

BarbaraofSeville · 06/03/2022 13:06

Cross posted. That sounds quite easy to manage and the Tesco opposite should make it quick and easy, not time consuming at all.

Big Lidl shop for non perishables, anything you can freeze and fresh stuff in the next few days.

Top up shops as required in Tesco in between.

Readyforspring · 06/03/2022 13:10

Also have costco local i used to get meat there and split up but stopped. Not sure why tbh. May start doing that again

That would be a lot of cheese, yogurt, and so on for our fridge. Then we would still have to go weekly for fruit, veg, milk, other things that wouldn't last a month. Store cupboard food would be fine monthly.

MrsDThomas · 06/03/2022 16:29

I do monthly. I have a 2week menu so I know how much meat/fish/pizzas etc i need. I have 3 freezers and i batch cook.

Then weekly for veg, bread, yogurts etc
