How to thank hospital staff?

I was emergency admitted to hospital at noon yesterday with cauda equina, then transferred to a spinal hospital for surgery in the wee small hours. I have been absolutely petrified as I have a complicated medical history, plus the added complication of a disabled daughter at home who I've had to arrange care for. So all in all I've been a bit of an emotional wreck Blush

But. Every single member of staff here, from the porter to the consultant have all been so wonderful, putting me at ease, listening to my many worries and allowing me the time to finish my WhatsApp with my daughter and her carer - even if it slowed rounds down! I would love to do something to show my appreciation to all of them, any suggestions as all I can think of is the standard box of chocs Grin

Email PALS with your lovely feedback - it will get passed on and read out at staff meeting or similar and the staff will be very pleased!

I'm a nurse and agree with emailing PALS, it makes me so happy when we get letters /emails like that.

How lovely to read your post!!!! As an Nhs Nurse it fair warmed the cockles of my heart!!! I hope you have a good recovery and are home again soon. Xxx If you look on you hospital website there might be a thankyou section where you write a message of thanks and it is delivered in card form to the relevant employees! Xxx

I bought each team a couple of lucky dip lottery tickets.
Plus a letter to the chief exec always goes down well.

Letter/email to PALS and the chief executive

Plus a box of naice choccie biccies

Write a letter saying what you have said here. It you remember anyone's names then mention them. Honestly, getting nice feedback is rare and meaningful to healthcare staff (and nurses can use it to revalidate).

An email to pals would be lovely. Also if you would really like to give a gift a big box of pens always goes down well Grin

Hope you are recovering now

I was in hospital for a week a couple of weeks ago and had a similar experience.
When I left I ordered a box of biscuit bars to be delivered to the ward I had been in, with a note saying Thank You, especially to a particular nurse and HCA who had been consistently kind and helpful, not just to me but to some very confused and poorly older patients.
I also sent them some nice blocak pens and some nurses scissors as they were always scrambling off to find these items, and wrote their names on the feedback sheet I was given when I left.
Everyone was rushed off their feet and as a whole, were doing the best they could, but there were these two individuals who went above and beyond.

I love the letters and keep them for reading when I’m feeling down.

Chocolates also popular! And a few times we’ve been given gift vouchers for coffee. Once someone brought in scones that was amazing. Depends on the Covid rules though.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2022 07:44

When I had a lockdown baby all the staff were amazing. I wrote personal cards to the main midwives with vouchers for the M&S they had on site (just a tenner each I think), then a general card for the whole card, emailed comments to PALS and sent some mixed baskets of stuff to the ward too.

It was covid so probably overkill for now but they all really appreciated it

Some lovely ideas thank you. Unfortunately I have a bit of a hearing issue and not good with catching names, but if I email pals with my name, ward number and room etc, that should be ok?

I'm unable to get to the shop for chocolates and pens, but will order some from Amazon - would that work?

Emailing PALS is definitely the way to go, and make sure you name as many staff as you can - not only is it lovely, we can also use it for out revalidation. Don’t worry if you don’t remember everyone’s names, we don’t mind and appreciate the gesture.
