Can’t remember the last time I physically wrote something…

Well not 100% true - I wrote a very short message in my partners Valentines Day card. Like “To X” and “Love from X”. Apart from that I literally can’t remember when I last wrote anything of any consequence.
I literally just type everything! It’s so weird when I was at school I was writing for hours every day. Now I don’t know what my old handwriting looks like! I makes me wonder if I can still write well??

I feel like I need to get a handwriting practice book for myself… my child is starting school soon and I don’t think she’s ever really observed anyone writing.

Do you write often?! If so what????

If you are talking literally, I write things every day I'd have thought - if you are including individual words, and short phrases.....

shopping list
diary appts
cards
addressing envelopes
notes to remind me to do something
notes for others in the household ('Can someone get the washing in' type thing)
a 'to do' list

Then I write notes during meetings sometimes - particularly if on Zoom, as I might want to still see that on screen
I write notes of date, name of person I spoke to if talking to a company on the phone
Today I wrote out a table so I could see when my ds is on which shift at a glance.

I'm sure there are many more things - that's just off the top of my head.

But I always use a laptop for longer documents or for letters to businesses, yes

Notes from meetings / reminders in my day book

Bullet journal.

Yes, I write every day.

Spottybotty20 · 06/03/2022 00:14

I write a lot in work, I’m a teacher and still hand write a lot. We have recently ditched the handwritten and drawn worksheets that my head of dept loved 😂

When I have time off I definitely write less and my writing will be really rusty from underuse in September.

ClariceQuiff · 06/03/2022 00:19

I use a paper diary for work and keep a paper journal. I also handwrite to-do lists and have a notebook for ongoing creative projects. It's rare a day goes by without my writing something by hand.

snowqu33n · 06/03/2022 00:22

I use handwriting to help me memorize things. It’s always helped me and I think it adds a physical component to the visual memory. It also helps improve other skills like drawing.
I have never had beautiful handwriting but I remember my grandmother had such distinctive handwriting we all immediately knew she had written something.
My DC currently learn 4 different writing systems at school and it seems on the face of it a bit of a waste of time, but it has noticeably improved drawing skills and attention to detail.

I love writing!
I have a paper diary because I like it.
I bullet journal and keep records of all sorts of things.
I kept a diary throughout the pandemic lockdowns, just for interest. Maybe one day it might interest someone else!
I have to leave paper notes at work for colleagues so that’s also a reason to write nicely. My colleagues always comment on my writing. I just enjoy it though, so I want to take time over it.
Ds is a baggage who appears to have a semi-trained spider to do his writing for him. I think nice writing is a good skill to have.

Rummikub · 06/03/2022 00:34

I write lists
Notes in work
I might join you in getting a handwriting book as my writing is awful

ImInStealthMode · 06/03/2022 00:35

I write all the time, mostly notes at work - either my proper to-do list that sits on my desk or quick notes about a particular thing I'm looking into at the time before I type the relevant email/report/whatever.

If I'm in training I write notes by hand too, I find it sinks in much better with me if I've written by hand instead of typing.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 06/03/2022 00:45

I write a lot.
I'm a teacher, I'm an avid writer of to do lists and as I hate my phone, texts and what's app, I write letters to my best friends rather than messaging them.

qualitygirl · 06/03/2022 00:50

I sign my name and the date
Physically about 16883973 times a day!! 🤣
And then if I make a mistake I have to put a line through it and sign my name and date...it's like a fun little annoying cycle

FaceLikeASlappedAss · 06/03/2022 00:56

Only ever a shopping list for the weekly shop and the odd card.

CheshireChat · 06/03/2022 01:08

Funnily enough I was just talking about this today and how it'll be a lot easier for DS who has terrible fine motor skills when he doesn't have to handwrite everything. And how difficult it would've been if he would've had to dip his fountain pen in ink etc.

pawpaws2022 · 06/03/2022 01:38

At work every day, and my writing is so messy Blush
I have to take notes while I'm on the phone so have a pile of scrap paper with half written stuff on it

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/03/2022 05:43

Even a couple of decades ago, when I was doing OU courses, I had to practise handwriting for say 10 minutes at a time, for writing (legible) essays during 3 hour exams. I was so unused to it, my hand would ache! Assignments were typed, but the exams were still handwritten - I don’t know whether they still are.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 06/03/2022 06:34

Notes for work mainly.

As much as possible when I need to do sums for work I do them on paper or in my head rather than on a calculator, mainly so I remember how…

lljkk · 06/03/2022 06:37

typing is noisy so I tend to take written notes in work meetings, then tidy them up for electronic record, helps me assemble my thoughts & next steps to have a 2 stage process

DH has an App on his phone to track his work time spent on many projects; I track by writing start/end times on paper & then transferring to the master spreadsheets

I need to find my phone & my glasses to use phone to write stuff like a shopping list or reminder note to self, but can write without glasses on paper

i write hand written thank yous (on back of some nice upcycled card) when I send ebay parcels. Not firing up computer/printer just to say thanks for sale

Eminybob · 06/03/2022 06:53

I write notes at work, several A4 pages per day. It then gets typed up so I’m probably making more work for myself, but I find it helps me with my thought process.

mjf981 · 06/03/2022 07:20

Due to the nature of my work, we write a lot of sympathy cards for clients. I'm good at the words, but my hand writing is increasingly shocking. I know dictate and get our receptionists to write the cards!
