Does anyone else not remember?

I consider myself to be a pretty well rounded / functioning person. But I don't seem to have any sort of memory. My DD (14) has an Autism assessment in 2 weeks and I am trying to think of things from when she was younger and I really struggle. I don't remember any 'facts' from school or even what happened a couple of years ago. (Ie this week my mum asked me what the handyman did with the door lock when he came six months ago and I have no idea). I just don't really recall much that happened in the past. Is this common? I have no idea.

Look up Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory (SDAM)!

Ex DH had pretty much no memories of his childhood which was assumed to be due to trauma

I'm great at remembering some things but hopeless at remembering others. I can read part of a book then the next day when I pick it up again it's like I've picked up a completely new book as I can't remember any of the characters or the plot. I can, however, (according to DS) remember who "Dave's cousin's sister's brother in law is".
I am absolutely useless at remembering historical facts, actors or singers names and sometimes even the name of someone whom I'd mentioned 10 minutes earlier.

This is me. My best friend of 29 years can remember loads of various details about school, people’s names, their siblings, things that happened to us both, she even remembers things that happened to me and my family… but for me it all a foggy blur. And it’s not like it was traumatic or anything and I’ve blocked it out. Maybe it was just a bit boring??? Some moments in time are clear in my memory, but they aren’t particularly eventful moments. Like, for example, I remember sitting in my bedroom day dreaming…. (I did a LOT of day dreaming) But I couldn’t tell you the name of my head mistress at school, or the names of 80% of the kids in my year.

I’m not stupid and I’m not forgetful in everyday life, but I do wonder whether I just don't pay enough attention to things. I’d be a really shit detective or spy.

I do, however, have an excellent memory for 80’s and 90’s music and do very well in pub quiz music rounds!

I have incredibly detailed memories of my childhood and university. Most of my first marriage is a blur. I think it's trauma related, it's like my brain shut down.

I 100% relate to this thread. My siblings remember lots of general things from when we were kids and I barely remember anything at all. I had a fine upbringing so it's not like I'm trying to block anything out.

My shorter term memory is ok. I remember stuff at work and appointments etc etc, but I can watch a film and tv series but not be able to recall anything that has happened a few days later. I don't remember much from when dd was a baby either which is sad.

I was worried something was wrong with me so it's reassuring to hear others have the same issue. I wish I knew how to fix it.
