12yr old’s behaviour

How would you react in this situation?…

12yr old spends 2 hours on his own at home after school, usually gaming with his friends on. I arrive home at 5.

This evening I came home and went in to his room to say hello. He was playing fortnite with his friends online and replied to me with get out of my room.

How would you respond?

Only if you come with me to get an ice cream!!!

CatelynStark · 04/03/2022 17:53

I’d cut the plug off his console.
I’ve raised three children to adulthood and would never have stood for cheek like that. Seriously, nip this rudeness in the bud now. Choose your other battles but your child must always speak to you with respect or face the consequences. .

I totally agree with picking your battles and not tolerating rudeness. try not to get bogged down by stuff they will grow out of, lay down firm but fair boundaries, and try to keep things lighthearted! He was just engrossed in the game, you disturbed him. Have that ice cream and chat about what he said, and the way he said it!

Thanks, I actually told him off for talking to me like that, gave him a choice to make it better but he then said will you please go away…. Stating that he said please. Then as I walked across his room, he thought I was leaving so then said close the door.

So I raised my voice at him telling him I don’t appreciate him speaking to me like that and then switched his computer off at the wall.

I’ve tools him that he can stay if it for the rest of the evening and can have it back tomorrow as long as he’s been nice and done something active.

I will facilitate the active part
