Is it normal to be so tired?

I'm shattered and have just had to have a power nap so that I can get through the evening.

My week has been like so. Work 3 days Mon-Wed. Job is very full on and honestly doesn't stop. My dc have had appointments and clubs on after school, so evenings spent running around then cooking tea, then my days off work I've spent doing cleaning, washing, running errands, went for a run after a break not doing any exercise.

Both dc now have training this evening.

Dh and I go to bed by 10.30 and are up at 6.

I'm wondering if it's normal to feel so tired, don't know how people do it when they work full time too.

I have been off work for a few weeks ( between jobs) and can't keep my eyes open. Today I got up at 10am, walked the dogs, did a few forms relating to my new job, did a small shop then fell back to sleep from 3pm to 5.30. I am putting it down to starting some new medication. I don't know how I will cope when I start full time work.

I slept 12 hours last night and had 2x one hour naps today. Still tired. Work full time (flexible) but have MS, so yes, very normal for me.

At this time of year after the winter, you might have a vitamin D deficiency. Maybe look up the symptoms and see what you think?

I'm tired too. Had some blood tests this week and looking forward to receiving the results.

Maybe it is just normal.

This is one of the toughest questions in medicine I think - what is normal tired and what is 'you need tests tired'?

Many parents are bloody exhausted all the time. Most are not unwell. I have been terribly tired at times.

But if you have any niggling doubts that it is not just tiredness, go to see your GP.

Things that exacerbate tiredness include:

  • poor quality sleep e.g. blocked nose, uncomfy bed
  • too much caffeine/sugar/alcohol/processed food
  • lack of vitamins/minerals
  • stress
  • boredom

Sometimes it is worth giving your life a check over to see if you are draining your own batteries.

That's just it I take vitamin d every day.

I sleep like a log at night. Don't drink or eat bad.

I think it's probably just juggling everything, feel like there always so many things to remember.

Are you anaemic?
Do you take metformin? (It depletes B12 if I recall correctly)

AnguaResurgam · 04/03/2022 18:12

It sounds like you have a lot on, so not surprised you feel tired!

But I was wondering if you've been OK with a schedule like that in previous months/years p, and the tiredness is new.

Because if so, then I think it wouid be worth seeing your GP, for a full bloodcount (includes iron levels) and maybe a thyroid screen

I felt like the constantly and have found taking vitamins b and d have helped massively.

I'm a teacher and find my job exhausting even though I love it. I'm constantly on the go mentally and physically. I do 10k steps a day easily and never stop making decisions and problem solving for the 11.5 hours a day I'm working.

Luckily DH works from home and does the school runs as well as cooking every day. When I get home I eat dinner, spend a bit of time with the children, have a bath and collapse in bed by 9pm. I can't stay up watching netflix all evening, I love an early night. The alarm goes off at 6am and it all starts again! I clean the house at the weekend and accept that I feel tired a lot of the time. It's not ideal but it's the lifestyle I've chosen. Vitamins, healthy meals, exercise all help a bit.

Maybe you should check it out with the GP then? It'll be nothing most likely, but tiredness without reason might want checking.

What age are you?

Duracellbunnywannabe · 04/03/2022 19:34

Most people need 8 to 9 hours sleep a night. Maybe try going to bed earlier for a couple of weeks to see if it makes and difference.

NHS guidelines are 6 to 9 hours for an adult. I am fine on seven, personally. I agree that if you are tired you should see what having more sleep feels like.
