My electric meter is broken

It’s a newish smart metre. Checked couple of weeks ago as only estimated readings on bill, it’s completely dead, I’ve tried pressing all the buttons but nothing. Reported to eon two weeks ago today who have referred to metering team, have chased up twice but just told they are busy and can’t give a time frame at all even when asked if it is likely to be in region of days, months, years. I think what happens when your meter is broken is that it goes in estimates, my bills have traditionally been low when I compare to others on here but I was trying to cut back but thinking there’s now no point. Anyone else had this and how long does it take to get fixed?

My dumb meter lost all display in March last year & despite repeated chasing wasn't fixed until it went bang & we lost all power in October. So you might be in for a long wait.

I'm on prepay, which admittedly made it a little easier, as I just continued to top up my regular weekly amount. They tried to bill me for an outstanding amount in November (with magical readings they'd managed to obtain). I went all the way through the complaints procedure up to the ombudsman, who ruled in my favour (I'd kept all receipts) & said they should give me compensation for the hassle too.

Keep chasing them. If you can work out what your last few bills would have been if they were charged at the new rate, this will at least give you a rough idea of what to expect. It will also let you know approximately how many units you usually use so you'll be able to see if the estimates they've used are roughly accurate or not. I found it really quite stressful so I do understand how you're feeling. I hope they do come out to you soon.

Yes, if they use an estimate that's too high, offer previous bills as evidence of your consumption.

Only an idiot would go off typical usage when previous documented history demonstrates your usage is lower, so you have grounds to complain if they go down that route.
