Have half a sandwich and half a portion of cereal Grin

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/03/2022 21:25

Depends on the sandwich, obviously.

Pumpernickel with salmon, healthy as can be: not low calorie though, so depends on your criteria.

TracyMosby · 03/03/2022 21:25

If weetabix your lunch, what is your breakfast?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:26

Wholegrain bread is still carbs! The amount of carbs you'd save switching from white to wholemeal is minimal - and it still wouldn't, technically, put you into a low carb way of eating.

And Weetabix has more carbs per 100g than wholegrain bread.

Where I do agree with you is butter rather than margarine or low fat spreads; meat, fish and veg (and it's the veg where you should be getting your carbs from, in the main). But whole milk, not semi-skimmed.

BIWI · 03/03/2022 21:27

What on earth kind of diet/plan are you trying to follow, because this doesn't make any sense!

PickAChew · 03/03/2022 21:28

No. Weetabix are heavily processed. Real food is healthier. A sandwich made with wholegrain bread, possibly with seeds in, with good quality protein and plenty of salad, for example.

Been watching dr sten ekberg

Struggling for lunch ideas

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:31

So what whole grain bread should I be buying then ?

OP posts:
LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:34

Well actaully been planning on switching to whole milk because I’ve read it’s more nutritious
And actually not much more fat really

Nope as carb central. Fat free food is full of processed crap. Have a look at low carb/keto diets, full of natural unprocessed food and no evil sugar.

Lovemusic33 · 03/03/2022 21:37

Does it have to be a cold lunch? Do you take lunch to work with you?
Maybe something like a crust less quiche or Frittata would be more healthy and lower carbs? For me the only way I can lose weight is to cut out bread completely, the only cereal I eat is fruit and fibre to um…..keep me regular or occasionally I will have porridge (for lunch or breakfast). I eat loads of veg and not too much fruit.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:37

I thought that activia was good ?

OP posts:
LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:37

I seem to be ok for evening meals
But it’s lunchtimes I struggle with
Also as I skip breakfast that’s easy !

OP posts:
LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:38

I’m at home so I have loads of time and a full kitchen so I can cook lunch

@LovelyYellowLabrador

Are you trying to eat a low carb diet? (Sorry but I've never heard of Dr Sten Ekberg, but it looks like he recommends low carb eating).

The only thing about your meal tonight that was low carb was the roast chicken.

If you do want to eat a low carb diet, then sugar-free, fat-free or 'lite'/light foods are out, and you should be eating high fat options. Potatoes and beans (of any kind) are too high in carbs.

BIWI · 03/03/2022 21:40

It's very important that you understand that a low carb diet is also one that is high in fat. It's not fat-free.

CityHigh · 03/03/2022 21:43

Can you not have a big salad with a large portion of protein and a healthy fat instead? More balanced. I feel like skipping breakfast and having cereal for lunch is setting yourself up for failure?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 03/03/2022 21:44

Well I guess I mean I’m tryig. To eat a bit less carbs than I usually eat rather than what others class as low carb
Kinda low carb for me

I mean what I’m doing can’t be great for me as last two nights I’ve woke up with my stomach growling which can’t be good !

Salad or soup would be much better. Or both. I'd stop thinking about weetabix and bread and start thinking about a range of vegetables in a range of colours.

catfunk · 03/03/2022 21:46

Op you need to do some research on food groups. Cereals are carbs. Vegetables are carbs. Baked beans are carbs. Sugars are carbs.
You can easily compare the carbs per 100g on a packet of weetabix and a loaf of your usual bread. It's fight there on the nutritional info.

What's your window? I either do OMAD or eat within a four-hour window. Don't be afraid of being hungry.
