Car MOT, what should I do?

Car due its MOT in a week. Yesterday driving on the motorway stone flew up and has chipped the windscreen just in my line of sight. Car will fail MOT for this I believe. My insurance should cover the repair (it's small so should be fixable) but no slots available for 3 weeks! Should I pay to get it repaired outside the insurance so it passes (hopefully) the MOT? Take it for the MOT knowing it will fail so they can repair it? Wait it out? (I could manage without car for 3 weeks but it would be huge inconvenience).

call the mot centre and ask how much they will charge to repair the windscreen, also see if anyone else does windscreens.
Decide if the price alternate fixes cost is worth better than being carless for 2 weeks. You can drive until your MOT expires, then you have to stop driving until the journey to take it for the MOT, so it won't be the full 3 weeks not driving.
It will be a personal decision, based on how much you need your car and personal finances.

I wouldn’t do windows through the insurance again. We had to wait ages, then they brought the wrong glass, so waited again.

Pop into your MOT place ASAP and ask them if it will be a fail or not.

Your insurers may be able to send someone out to you and it may not cost much. We didn't pay at all.
