Worried: Baby has picked off own cradle cap

Been meaning to cut her nails for days now but just haven't got round to it. Now woken to her head covered in loose flakes and skin pink underneath. She doesn't seem bothered but I've heard that picking cradle cap can cause infection and/or take away hair follicle!!

Anyone have any experience/knowledge of what I can do to help? Should I call dr?

She's 6 months.

It’s fine. One of mine made their head bleed !

You don't need to call a doctor. Just keep it clean, like you usually would.

My GP told me to go ahead and pick!

If there are no signs of infection I wouldn’t call the doctor.

In a couple of days once the skin has recovered you could rub the flakes off using gently warmed olive oil. This might stop her doing this again.

For tonight have you got a sleepsuit with integral mittens she could wear?

I would worry about the hair follicles at this point. I’ve had a really severe skin condition on my scalp that stopped my hair growing but the minute it was cleared (which did involve some damage to my scalp) the recovery process was fine and my hair is growing ok. Babies repair incredibly quickly in comparison to oldies like me!

I WOULDN’T worry not I would 🤦🏻‍♀️ Sorry

Ah thank you so so much. Being a worried mumma can blow logic out of proportion (and Google searches definitely don't help with that!).

I only asked if I should call dr as I thought they could give something to prevent infection.

Feel a bit silly now but glad I asked.
Thank you for putting my mind at ease.

Have you managed to cut her nails yet?

I have memories of creeping into darkened rooms with nail clippers to trim my little ones nails whilst they slept, when they were this age Smile

Oh, the nails of babies! I remember doing a nail clip and following up with an Emery board every day for two weeks before the christening.

Cradle cap shampoo was really effective for us. The bottle smelled like roses and we used it for nearly a year after as it's just a mild baby shampoo.
