I could not do Wordle for a few days. Started again yesterday. Just done today. Not sure the words are as random as they used to be.

OP posts:

@intheblightgarden

There's definitely a connection to the news, no doubt
Rupee, nasty and then today's?
MRex · 03/03/2022 07:56

It depends what words you start with if you find them hard or not. Eliminating vowels and common letters in the first 2-3 guesses gets you to either. I had a diversion through nasal first yesterday, that's how it goes.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 03/03/2022 07:59

When was rupee the word? I've played every day since the end of Jan and definitely haven't had rupee.

I agree - there could be a connection or it may be coincidence - let's see tomorrow. Sidetone I entered the word satan yesterday - would not accept it..

LizBennet · 03/03/2022 08:02

"Nasal" is a bold choice for a first guess with 2 letters the same 😱
Rupee was the word on Tuesday.
I can't see a link with today's and yesterday's.

Chemenger · 03/03/2022 08:02

Posted that too soon, swill should be at the end, not next to spill (there might be other slips, it turns out I can’t remember more than two unconnected words at a time!).

Chemenger · 03/03/2022 08:05

Didn’t post the list!
Nasty
Choke
Chant
Spill
Vivid
Bloke
Trove
Thorn
Other
Tacit
Swill
Dodge

Chemenger · 03/03/2022 08:05

Last 12 days

PurrBox · 03/03/2022 08:06

Brevill
They are Americans. What else would you expect

This was so funny- too bad it got deleted. I have seen so many weird and wonderful things being blamed on Americans, but what did this mean???

Is it that only Americans are strange and obtuse when inventing word games? or is it the self-limiting, though pleasant, silliness of Wordle itself that must be American? Or is the mysterious (undetectable to me) link between the last 3 days' Wordle words ineluctably American for some other reason.

I am perplexed (and American)!

Chemenger · 03/03/2022 08:07

I give up.., rupee should be between nasty and choke.

OutlookStalking · 03/03/2022 08:09

I thought today's was appropiate, but Australia get to "do" the wordle almost half a day before us and I've sometimes done it at 12.05 for example. I think the words must be set in advance.

Nasal was third guess, I had NAS spread around from the first two guesses so was finding their spots.
PurrBox · 03/03/2022 08:11

Sorry, the quote from Brevill I posted at 8:06:05, should have been in quotation marks...

LizBennet · 03/03/2022 08:12

Aah sorry MRex, I misread your comment.

SkiingIsHeaven · 03/03/2022 08:13

I think that after the NY Times took over they seemed to be obsessed with using words with two of the same letters. Not always next to each other like spill but also separate like in tacit.

That was the pattern that I noticed.

Me too, if I go to bed after 11.30 I find myself waiting until midnight to do wordle, quordle and worldle.

For a five letter word, there's around a one in five chance that there will be two letters the same. But not all of those possibilities will make actual words, so for real words the odds are actually a lot better. Looking at the list above, 4 of the last 12 share letters, which seems to mirror the proportion of real words. So it's not really a pattern.
Giveaschitt · 03/03/2022 08:36

This is just a case of people making connections that aren't there. The original developer produced the list with several years worth of words on it. NYT haven't changed the list (bar removing a few words they deemed inappropriate or too obscure). You can apparently find the list if you want to check (though that will then of course ruin the game for you) as it is apparently quite easy to access.

BringMeTea · 03/03/2022 08:49

If tomorrow is Putin, let's talk...

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 03/03/2022 10:47

I think tomorrow's will be B U L L Y.

(Actually that would quite a hard one to get.)

Confused I think you're overthinking

DogDaysNeverEnd · 03/03/2022 16:00

Yep, just checked and the word list is available if you know how to access the code. Makes sense being a global game but I guess they could have hidden it better.

There's about 6 years of words so any links are coincidence or some quirk of the list creator (but probably automated).

And I learned a new word - apophenia; perceiving links between unrelated things.

Not sure about that, what about when HUMOR was used and there was uproar?

When I say uproar, I mean people moaned, muttered about American spellings and rolled their eyes Wink

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2022 16:18

@KeepYaHeadUp

I know what you mean, OP. They seem "selected" so as not to follow with the assumptions about most common letters, letter patterns in common words, etc.
I don't think that applies at all to todays, or yesterdays either.
