Has anyone used a weighted blanket for either PTSD or desperation?

I’m considering buying one for my friend. She’s having therapy etc too but wondered if this could also help (even a tiny bit!)
Also, any recommendations? these are on offer and I like that they are also machine washable and the company is, apparently, a good one but I’ve really no idea!

Thanks.

They look.good, machine washable is a definite plus. However it doesn't say what weight?

It helps me to sleep. You need to check the weight though as it has to be 10% of your body weight.

I love mine. They have them in aldi for £29.99 at the moment.

I have one, and absolutely love it. Hate not being at home now as I miss sleeping under it.

I find it calming, I sleep with mine every night and it has made my sleep pattern much better. I bought it to help with chronic pain and it has definitely helped that. I've had mine for about 2 years. It's cotton backed and can be machine washed, though I put mine in a single duvet cover as it's easier to just put that in the machine to wash and dry. I think the fleece backed ones would feel claustrophobic. Mine isn't too hot in summer either

If I have had an overwhelming day or feel very stressed I will put it on the sofa and watch some mindless TV and it helps calm me down. Ive found it invaluable over the last few weeks when grieving for a close relative. Its a bit like taking those big breaths in and slowly out when you can't remember to do it yourself, well that's the best way I can describe it.

I tried one of these - but I gave it away - I found it too suffocating. They were very heavy - if that’s what you are looking for. They might work for someone else.

LoveMyPiano · 02/03/2022 11:46

Maybe a full size might be overwhelming. (I have one and haven't started to use it yet.)
I was looking the other day at toys, which may have the same calming effect - even for an adult - for using at times other than to sleep, possibly.
I have the elephant in my basket; not purchased yet.
